I think of it the same as Hentai - it doesn't have to be real to get the 'effect'. the reason AI is problematic is because of how fast, realistic and 'perfected' it can make things become... this might really mess with our ideas of body-image, and saturate the scene with non-real human characters, priming us for the future when synthetic sexual partners might become preferred.
