Movie of the Week | soft horror

Hello cine lovers, so today felt like a nice day to watch a horror flick. And even though I'm not one to sit around and watch a one-hour horror movie I decided to take a chance with the movie, spell.

About the movie.
A young man after enduring a gruesome upbringing by this father eventually grows up to become a wealthy and successful lawyer with a wife, a son, and a daughter. He is happy fearless and satisfied with his life even though the trauma of his past still haunts him.
Until one day, he gets a call from a strange lawyer who informs him that his father passed away. He decides with his wife to drag his reluctant children to his father's burial.
But something horrendous happens to their plane on the way to the burial which causes the plane to crash. Leaving them stuck in a town where a woman who practices voodoo magic intends to use them as sacrifices.

Review
A little portion of the movie was set in a civilization society filled with black and white while the rest of the movie takes place in a backward-thinking western society, populated by black individuals.
Though the movie is stated as horror, it didn't dive much deep into being a horror movie as most of its scenes even though gruesome were very much watchable.
But what I love about the movie was how it started things on a very high and calm note, drawing a picture of a very happy family with a father that has a traumatized past. Before it then quickly switches to a tone of uncertainty.
The movie mainly relied on the idea of voodoo to convey how horrifying it could be, while still shedding light on how extremely diabolical the practice of voodoo is in some parts of the world despite the modern development, the technology advancement, and intellectual freedom that is made available to everyone.

In terms of voodoo magic, the movie succeeded at a 90% level in exposing the ideas and mysteries behind it. While the horror part of the movie can be rated 50% because, despite how horrifying the movie appeared there wasn't much of a horror to it. The closest scenes it had to be called horror were when he ate his son's hand which was used to prepare food for him, and when he pulled a horrifyingly large nail from his foot.

The actors gave a very thrilling performance, entertaining and horrifying at its best, but I would love to acknowledge the main actor and protagonist that did the most, Omari Hardwick.
He did a good job portraying a man desperate to save his life and that of his family despite being injured. I especially love his performance at the end of the movie when he exacts his Vengeance on his captors. It felt cold but well deserved.

Finally, this movie is not very scary but, it is horrifying enough to watch, it's a very easy-going horror film that you don't want to miss out on.
