Over the years animated movies have proceeded to stun their viewers with breathtaking art, illustration, shading, highlights, and other elements of art perfectly embedded into them. And all this is made possible through the unrelenting efforts of the animators.
And just like live-action movies, not every animated film is for everyone, but Entergalactic is for everyone.
The film is based on Jabari who is a charming, streetwear-clad artist on the cusp of real success. After a chance run-in with his cool new photographer neighbor, Meadow, Jabari has to figure out whether he can make space for love in his life.
I came across this movie on a Twitter thread where people compared it to another animated movie. ( The sea beast).
After properly watching both movies, I finally made my decision, Entergalactic is the best-animated movie of the year 2022.
Here are my reasons why?.
The Art style.
It's no news that animated movies today have embedded in them a new level of sophisticated art, one that tends to seduce the mind and capture our attention. And that's exactly what Entergalactic did. Taking a few artistic tips from its predecessor animation movie, into the spider-verse, Entergalactic presented itself to be a 3d work of art filled with the stylish imprints of 2d effects. But, it still manages to single itself out from Into the spider-verse with motion picture qualities. The spiderman into the spider verse animated feature was able to thrill and entertain due to its artistic appearance and design that allowed it to be like a live-action comic book. While Entergalactic is built on the same principle laid down by the into the spider-verse film, the Netflix special (Entergalactic) emerges with something not very different from into the spider-verse but more distinctive. Its animated style allowed it to look like a moving picture. Like a perfectly made painting (e.g the Mona Lisa) came to life.
Fashion.
How many times can you single out an animated movie and say without a doubt that there is a prominent case of fashion in it? If your answer is zero, then think again because Entergalactic just broke the scale.
Now, in my previous point, I stated that Entergalactic was different its artistic display, well, as much as that is true, it is mostly due to the heavy role fashion played in this Netflix special. From the designers' shoes straight up to the colorful pants, shirts, jackets, and shades. There was just a hundred percent case of extreme swagger and elegance. And this is something that into the spider-verse didn't get right. Where the into the spider-verse the characters can always be seen wearing a specific style of clothes from start to finish it is different in the case of Entergalactic as there is active clothing changing and colorful fashion display.
Music.
Entergalactic is no Spiderverse which has amazing action fight songs but it does have other things in common with the spider-verse and one of them is the rap(song). Up until I watched the entire film, I didn't know that the sounds and music were based on Kid Cudi's album Entergalactic, which surprisingly is the title of the animation. Every beat from the song went in line with the emotions felt by the animated characters, and the mood of the scene in view. My favorite music is all of them because I still can pick one. Not that the album itself is fire but the beautiful songs on the album helped to draw out the realistic energy, emotions, and mood that can only be felt in a realistic movie or a live-action one.
Just so you know, Kid Cudi has nothing to do with into the spider verse but it is very clear he learned a lot from it.
Stunts.
Ahhh ..yes, my favorite part of this movie, the stunts. Although this movie had a lot of interesting things, I feel that the most difficult to ignore would be the excessive use of bicycles. I mean why is Jabari(scott Mescudi) unwilling to take a bus or any other form of transport apart from a bicycle? I'm not complaining because he does a variety of intriguing stunts with said bicycle and I found every one of them entertaining.
Black power.
Entergalactic is heavily rich in black culture, from fashion down to music. It's an endless circle of black entertainment.🥰
People believe that animated movies are meant for kids and while that is true, there are still films like Entergalactic that says otherwise with a raw but refined approach to delivering an animated film that's meant for an adult. I don't think any other animated project comes close to Entergalactic but if there was, Entergalactic will still be the G.O.A.T🐐.
