Hello everyone!
Behold a newbie here!
Below is my entry for this blogpost.
Immediately I saw the title of the contest for this blogpost, this came to mind and I started laughing.
I first saw this sitcom years ago. I was quite young at the time. My big brother had purchased the disc as we didn't own a satellite dish then and it wasn't shown in our local stations.
Everybody hates Chris(Tyler James Williams) is a black American comedy movie produced by Chris Rock, Ali Reloy. Being an inspiration from the life of Chris Rock, I still do not understand how someone's teenage-hood could have been so crazy. Anyways, this film centers on a young teenage boy Chris and his family; his money-conscious dad Julius(Terry Crews), dramatic and self-righteous ever yelling mother Rochelle(Tichina Arnold), his younger brother Drew(Tequan Richmond) who seemed to be better than him at everything and was way bigger than him and his sister Tonya(Imani Hakim) who always got him in trouble. Such a dramatic family!
At school, he was the only black kid which gained him lots of attention and he was constantly bullied. For Chris, it was always one day one trouble no matter how well he behaved and things seem to be going. Infact, he was always getting in trouble at school, at home, on the bus, in the neighborhood, in his dreams, even when he wasn't doing anything, trouble was always looking for him. Worse still, nobody liked him. How can one person be so unfortunate?
His mother's character was it for me. Her strictness, choice of language("..boy, I'll knock you into last night", is one I cannot forget), how dramatic she is, got me intrigued. She was the perfect act. I somehow felt like that's how she may be in real life.
The scene from where his mother showed up at his school(math class precisely) because he failed his maths test, couldn't show his mum the result inorder to avoid getting punished so falsified the result but got busted when the teacher called his home to speak about his performance still lives rent-free in my head. The look on his face when he walked into class and saw her sitting pretty was an entire laugh-load. The voices in his head biding him farewell to the great beyond had us all rolling.
I can't even single out a favorite scene because every one of them was a hit. I recall my parents (they're sort of old school but somehow the enjoyed it) and siblings gathering around whenever it was time to view this film. We always had good laughs and sort of bonded even more. Although I don't quite like how & where it ended but that notwithstanding, this sitcom remains my best family comedy.
