I decided to enter this contest. I think that Spartacus is insanely underrated. I would even go as far saying that it is better than either game of thrones or vikings. Or at least more consistent. Spartacus for me remained awesome and interesting entire time. On the other hand Game of thrones and vikings sooner or later fell from their greatness. Spartacus cast is full fascinating characters. Some of them are very likable...others not so much. I especially like dialogues of this show.
I mean where else have you ever heard someone talk like this?
Perhaps this show is not the best choice if you want to watch it with your kids. Along with fancy curses comes a lot of violence and sex scenes. The show is full of intrigue and betrayals. We see people from lowest of slaves to the highest politicians. Despite their different ranks they all seem to have a few things in common. Everyone wants something- more fame, wealth, power, love or freedom... And most of the time these desires are more important than anything else. A man is a wolf to another man. The show takes this saying to a heart- no matter where a person stands on the power ladder he can never be safe. But despite that, main character Spartacus is able not only survive but also forge some interesting alliances and seemingly unlikely friendships. He manages to unite those who once stood as his rivals and enemies. To lead them towards common goal. And then to turn those few people into ever growing stone collapse, that would even make the mighty Rome tremble.
During the show Spartacus has a few different goals. He also grows as a person. In the beginning despite already being a skilled warrior he is also at times overconfident/ blinded by his thirst for revenge. But later he becomes not only one of the best fighters in the series but also a great leader and tactician. His desire for revenge doesn't disappear but is no longer blinding Spartacus.
I think that story of Spartacus is inspiring and very relevant even today. The way I see it, even today many people are fighting against the mighty for their freedom. I think that Hive and crypto in general are the tools/weapons that can help us to achieve this goal. So good luck everyone. Together we can achieve freedom.

I've never watched any episodes of this TV series, but it seems that its strong point is the technical production and replication of old sets.

While I loved the first season, it felt like the show was dragging after the second season, which is a prequel and was noteworthy.
Also, since Stanley Kubrick has a masterpiece on the same historical events, it's hard to forget that and see it in a completely new light. Have you seen that film?
