This is, of course, the sequel. Set a few years later as Aquaman juggles life as the King of Atlantis and a Father, who is inexplicitily raising the child he has with Mera (Amber Heard) at the Lighthouse with his Father instead of, you know, in Atlantis. We are treated to several campy, yet formulaic single father struggling with a small child events. Mera is present during some of these, making even less sense.
Enter Black Manta, bent on revenge, he's searching the planet for abandoned technology to repair his equipment and seek revenge on Aquaman. With the help of Randal Park, (I guess BD Wong was unavailable to play the easily manipulated scientist who makes bad decisions right up to the last minute and has a change of heart) he locates the "Lost Kingdom" where an evil King is imprisoned in ice. Black Manta becomes possessed by the Black Trident and begins a crusade to turn Global Warming up to 11. Chaos ensues.
The movie has some great action, but it's the parts with Aquaman and his brother Orm that make it all worthwhile. It's every much the same Thor-Loki banter feel that just makes things move. Amber Heard's parts in the movie appear to have been reduced, but she is quite present in the action.
Preachy: Of course, there's the Climate Change undertones lamenting how mankind is destroying the planet only to find out that the Alantians did it first. Hence the existence of the Lost Kingdom.
This sound like a movie I can indulge myself in, on a free evening with my family and some popcorn by our side.
