Coming from the Philippines, this film comes to us on Netflix with an interesting plot and that had everything to be a good production but that ends up being wasted like most of the filming that is taking place on this platform.
Aurora, it is not convincing for many reasons but first I will tell you a little of the history that it is trying to show us. A passenger ship wrecks on a shore preventing locals from working. Leanna, the protagonist of this film, is offered a good amount of money as long as she can rescue some of the corpses that can be found on the shore and since she is the owner of an inn, she accepts the sinister deal.
Little by little strange and confusing situations are revealed to us that are not very convincing and even confusing. Leanna hires someone to help her with the rescue of bodies but this person takes advantage of the situation by selling the supplies from the ship she found. Leanna begins to change her mind for no really compelling reason, ditching the idea of making money for the corpses to be at peace with her own morality.
Proveniente de Filipinas, nos llega esta película en Netflix con una trama interesante y que tenía todo para ser una buena producción pero que se termina desperdiciando como la mayoría de rodajes que se están produciendo en esta plataforma.
Aurora, no es convincente por muchos motivos pero primero les contare un poco de la historia que se nos intenta mostrar. Un barco de pasajeros naufraga en una costa impidiendo que los lugareños puedan trabajar. Leanna, la protagonista de esta película, le es ofrecido una buena cantidad de dinero con tal de que rescate algunos de los cadáveres que pueden encontrarse en la orilla y como ella es dueña de una posada, acepta el siniestro trato.
Poco a poco se nos van revelando situaciones extrañas y confusas que no son muy convincentes y hasta confusas. Leanna, contrata a alguien para que le ayude en los menesteres del rescate de cuerpos pero esta persona se aprovecha de la situación vendiendo las provisiones del barco que encontraba. Leanna empieza a cambiar de parecer sin ningún razón realmente convincente, desechando la idea de hacer dinero en pro de conseguir los cadáveres para estar en paz con su propia moralidad.
This sudden change is not explained and is followed by some dead people walking through the inn trying to scare the viewer in a failed way. A peculiar aspect of this film is that it is accompanied by a monumental soundtrack that does not even make us feel any terror or tension about what we are seeing. The movie itself becomes confusing and boring, failing to capture my attention in a deep way.
The special effects aren't exactly the best either, but that's something that doesn't really interest me, what I'm looking for in the cinema is a good story that manages to catch me without much visual spectacle, but in this case, Aurora didn't get it.
Este cambio repentino no es explicado y viene seguido de algunos muertos caminando por la posada tratando de asustar al espectador de manera fallida. Un aspecto peculiar de esta película es que viene acompañada de una banda sonora monumental que ni siquiera con eso nos impulsa a sentir algo de terror o tensión acerca de lo que estamos viendo. La película en sí, se vuelve confusa y aburrida no logrando captar mi atención de manera profunda.
Los efectos especiales tampoco son precisamente los mejores pero eso es algo que no me interesa realmente, lo que busco en el cine es una buena historia que logre atraparme sin mucho espectáculo visual, pero en este caso, Aurora no lo consiguió.
The plot and atmosphere could have been quite hypnotic if a job had been done with a more psychological aspect instead of going for more traditional and visually depleted resources. The sinister aspect of the place where it was filmed may have reached real levels of terror, but everything goes down a ravine because of the conventional and boring in which the story becomes.
History is lost in the same sea in which the ship was wrecked. It does not offer anything new, nothing remarkable except for as I said the spectacular soundtrack it has, but we do not go to the cinema just to listen to a soundtrack, we want to see a good movie in every way.
In some situations it reminded me very vaguely of a sinister island but only because of the atmosphere of the film, dark and mysterious and that is precisely what I think they should have done with this film and not waste the whole plot with dead from nowhere that appear without give us nothing special.
La trama y la atmosfera pudieron ser bastante hipnóticas si se hubiera realizado un trabajo con un aspecto más psicológico en vez de irse por recursos más tradicionales y agotados a nivel visual. El aspecto siniestro del lugar en que fue rodada pudo haber alcanzado auténticas cuotas de terror, pero todo se va por un barranco por lo convencional y aburrido en que se vuelve la historia.
La historia se pierde en el mismo mar en que el barco naufrago. No ofrece nada nuevo, nada destacable a excepción de como dije la banda sonora espectacular con que cuenta, pero nosotros no vamos al cine solo a escuchar un soundtrack, deseamos ver una buena película en todo sentido.
En algunas situaciones me recordó muy vagamente a isla siniestra pero solo por la atmosfera de la película, oscura y misteriosa y eso es precisamente lo que pienso que debieron haber hecho con esta película y no desperdiciar toda la trama con muertos de la nada que aparecen sin darnos nada especial.
It may also have created a more compelling moral and ethical problem such as the struggle for survival, rather than giving Leanna an irrelevant noble role.
Honestly, more than half of the film I felt confused and bored and not because the plot is complicated but I really did not understand what the film was trying to show, it does not manage to focus on itself, but the good is lost more and more. The thread with which it started and this is a shame because it could have been a production that stood out since at the photography level it sometimes achieves a hypnotic atmosphere.
I did not understand why they wasted such a good soundtrack in this film, it does not help at any time to produce tension because it contrasts too much with what is seen. I'm sure this movie had good intentions but they got lost trying to do something more conventional and safe for a wide audience spectrum, but that's their main mistake and it ended up making a mess with the script and the premise.
This is nowhere near a movie that I would watch again and probably forget in a few days. It was a boring experience and without a good argumentative framework. It does not have memorable scenes or dialogues so it will surely be a film that goes through oblivion and that no one will remember. I honestly do not recommend it at all, rather I consider that it is almost two hours of my life wasted in this mess.
También puedo haberse creado un problema moral y ético más convincente como por ejemplo la lucha por la sobrevivencia, en vez de otorgarle a Leanna un papel noble que no viene al caso.
Sinceramente, más de la mitad de la película me sentí confundido y aburrido y no porque la trama sea complicada sino que realmente no entendí lo que la película trataba de mostrar, no logra enfocarse en si misma, sino que se pierde cada vez más el buen hilo con que empezó y esto es una lástima porque pudo haber sido una producción que resaltara ya que a nivel de fotografía consigue en algunas ocasiones una atmosfera hipnótica.
No entendí porque desperdiciaron una banda sonora tan buena en esta película, no ayuda en ningún momento a producir tensión porque contrasta demasiado con lo que se ve. Estoy seguro que esta película tenía buenas intenciones pero que se perdieron por tratar de hacer algo más convencional y seguro para un amplio espectro de audiencia pero ese es su principal error y termino haciendo un desastre con el guion y con la premisa.
Esta no es ni de lejos una película que volvería a ver y que probablemente olvide en unos pocos días. Fue una experiencia aburrida y sin un buen marco argumentativo. No tiene escenas ni diálogos memorables así que de seguro será una película que pase por el olvido y que nadie recordara. Sinceramente no la recomiendo en absoluto, más bien considero que son casi dos horas de mi vida desperdiciadas en este bodrio.
