On the other hand, Tarkovsky could have the last laugh if he lived long enough to see Hollywood’s 2002 attempt to remake his work under Steven Soderbergh’s direction, an effort that, despite all expectations, proved that technology and financial resources by themselves can’t make one film better than another.
I still was surprised how good actually Soderbergh’s version was. But that was probably because my expectations from Hollywood were too low in the first place 😁
It was quite opposite for me. I expected Soderbergh to deliver something better. More about it in my regular review.

BTW, I consider Soderbergh and Brian De Palma two most overrated directors of modern era. For De Palma I don’t have one nice word. Hitchcock copycat…
