Movies and series can make us laugh, cry, sigh, transport us to unknown places, involve us in exciting adventures and make us identify with a character, in my mind have passed from Indiana Jones, to Count Dracula himself, from Jake Blues and Elwood Blues to John Mc Clane, to Tarzan and Hans Landa himself.
It is very difficult to choose a character that has marked me because in my mind and in my heart I have a piece of each of the above mentioned and many more.
I chose two characters to participate in the Cinetv: Your favorite fictional character(s) Link Aqui contest. The first one Snake Plisskeen as this was one of the first ones I always remembered because it was like watching Harry Callaham (Dirty Harry) and Paul Kersey (Death Wish) together in one person, with a demeanor that defies belief. The second character Harry Powell, a real monster who hides behind religion to commit his atrocities, while viciously persecuting two small children trying to survive in a world where they are almost ignored.
Many times I would like to be like Snake with his amoral, cynical, fearless character. I don't like Harry Powell, but I have come across many people in my life whose character and actions are just like him.
Snake Plissken.
A laid back anti-hero who fights against the established power and the decadence of the political and police system, violent, cynical and rogue. He is a World War III Hero known throughout the underworld as a true legend: Snake Plissken. So far we know him for his adventures in 1997 Escape from New York and 2013: Escape from Los Angeles rescuing the president of the United States in the first and in the second film dealing with an artifact capable of putting the world in darkness and rescuing the daughter of the president of the day who is willing to end the government of his father.
With an eye patch, a snake tattooed on his belly, with half a mane and military clothing, with serenity, nerve and irony. He symbolizes the individualism that fights corruption in the system. He distrusts the goodness of the institutions. He is a man capable of making the president of the United States look bad and of disconnecting all known technology leaving the world in darkness.

Magnificent Kurt Russell in his iconic role of Snake, a criminal forcibly turned hero rescuer, to which he brings the right dose of disenchantment and cynicism. His nickname comes from his peculiar way of whispering under his breath like a snake. It is impossible to visualize another actor in this role.

Snake takes on gangs, cannibals and opportunistic renegades, fights brawlers in a ring with a baseball bat full of nails, surfs in the middle of a tsunami, shoots underwater missiles and features a host of other abilities.
In his first adventure, the main confrontation is with Duke, the self-proclaimed leader of New York City, which has been turned into a megaprison. He has kidnapped the president, who must appear in 24 hours in a very important conference where he will present a very important audio tape.
In another adventure he is confronted by Cuervo Jones, a revolutionary who looks suspiciously like Che Guevara. Here, Plissken is recruited by the president to retrieve the antidote and his daughter. To do so, he has less than ten hours or the virus that has been introduced into his body will kill him.

Harry Powell
There is no woman who does not fall for his charms in one way or another. He is a predator of women whom he perverts and then dispatches at will. Powell is a strange character, half psychopath half preacher.

Ben Harper is a criminal who shares a cell with Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum), before being executed in a dream out loud Powell learns that Harper entrusts his sons with the ten thousand dollar haul for which he will be sentenced. At liberty, Powell goes to Harper's village with the idea of getting hold of the loot.
At first Harry Powell seems like a good Samaritan who comes to represent the perfect husband in many people's eyes. But suddenly he becomes a wild animal who loses all his humanity.
Powell has the words love and hate tattooed on the knuckles of both hands, immortalized in a scene in which he presents the following monologue: ''These fingers, dear brothers, are always fighting with each other. The hatred of the left hand fights, and it seems that love is going to lose, but everything changes, love wins. The hand of love has won, and the hate of the left hand has been knocked out.''

The character played by Robert Mitchum, makes friends with the townspeople, and falls in love with the widow of the executed convict, marries her and begins a complex relationship with his wife and especially with her two young children, who know where the money their father left them is. The mother appears drowned in the river with her hair floating.
He relentlessly stalks his victims, innocent children (Harper's children), becoming a stalker, as if he were an ogre.

The atmosphere of the film is full of biblical references, some unintentional humor, showing an adult society marked by greed and delirium.
Harry Powell appears in the film The Night of the Hunter directed by Charles Laughton in 1955. The adventures of Snake Plissken can be enjoyed in the films 1997 Escape from New York and 2013: Escape from Los Angeles, directed by John Carpenter in 1981 and 1996 respectively.
Night of the Hunter and 1997 Escape from New York are cult films, I highly recommend you watch them.

Con un parche en el ojo, una serpiente tatuada en el vientre, con media melena y vestimenta militar, con serenidad, nervio e ironía. Simboliza el individualismo que combate la corrupción en el sistema. Desconfía en la bondad de las instituciones. Es un hombre capaz de hacer quedar mal al presidente de los Estados Unidos y de lograr desconectar toda la tecnología conocida dejando a el mundo en penumbras
Observamos mucha suciedad, trastos por doquier en medio la calle, edificios a medio caerse, coches destartalados. Los gobiernos en estas películas son autoritarios, y corruptos políticamente, solo velan por sus propios intereses y no por los de la población.

Magnífico Kurt Russell en su emblemático papel de Snake, un criminal revertido forzosamente a héroe rescatador , al que aporta la dosis justa de desencanto y cinismo. Su apodo se debe a su peculiar manera de hablar susurrando en voz baja como una serpiente. Es imposible visualizar a otro actor en este papel.

Snake se enfrenta a pandillas, caníbales y renegados oportunistas , a peleadores en un ring con un bate de baseball lleno de clavos, surfea en medio de un tsunami, dispara misiles submarinos y presenta muchísimas otras habilidades.
En su primera aventura el confrontamiento principal es con Duke el autoproclamado líder de la ciudad Nueva York, la cual fue convertida en una megaprision. Este tiene secuestrado al presidente, el cual debe presentarse en 24 horas en una conferencia muy importante en donde presentara una cinta de audio muy importante.
En otra aventura se enfrenta a Cuervo Jones, un revolucionario sospechosamente parecido al Che Guevara. Aquí, Plissken es reclutado por el presidente para recuperar el antídoto y a su hija. Para ello tiene menos de diez horas o el virus que le han introducido en el cuerpo le matará.

El arma es una especie de control remoto que alinea una serie de satélites capaces de inutilizar todo dispositivo electrónicos en cualquier parte del planeta, de esta manera el presidente lo utilizaría para dominar el mundo. Las intenciones de Cuervo con estos satélites es recuperar a los Estados Unidos con la ayuda de una fuerza invasora del tercer mundo que están preparadas para atacar.
Ambas aventuras nos recuerdan las películas del viejo Oeste.

Harry Powell.
No hay mujer alguna que no caiga rendida ante sus encantos de una forma u otra. Es un depredador de mujeres a las que él mismo pervierte y luego despacha a su antojo. Powell es un extraño personaje, mitad psicópata mitad predicador.

Ben Harper es un criminal que comparte celda con Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum), antes de ser ejecutado en un sueño en voz alta Powell se entera que Harper le confía a sus hijos el botín de diez mil dólares por el cual será sentenciado. En libertad, Powell va al pueblo de Harper con la idea de hacerse con el botín.
En principio Harry Powell parece un buen samaritano que viene a representar el marido perfecto a los ojos de muchas personas. Pero de repente se convierte en un animal salvaje que pierde toda su humanidad.
Powell lleva tatuados en los nudillos de ambas manos las palabras amor y odio quedando inmortalizado en una escena en la cual presenta el siguiente monologo: ´´Estos dedos, queridos hermanos, están siempre luchando los unos con los otros. El odio de la mano izquierda lucha, y parece que el amor va a perder, pero todo cambia, el amor gana. Ha ganado la mano del amor y el odio de la mano izquierda ha quedado fuera de combate .´´

El personaje interpretado por Robert Mitchum, hace amistad con la gente del pueblo, y enamora a la viuda del convicto ejecutado, se casa con ella e inicia una compleja relación con su esposa y sobre todo con los dos hijos pequeños de ella, conocedores de donde se encuentra el dinero que les dejó su padre. La madre, aparece ahogada en el río con los cabellos flotando.
Acecha a sus víctimas sin descanso , a niños inocentes, (los hijos de Harper), convirtiéndose en un acosador, como si fuese un ogro.

Los niños, con mucho miedo, son testigos del enfrentamiento entre el mal y el bien, personificados en Harry Powell y Rachel Cooper (excelentes interpretaciones de Robert Mitchum y Lilian Gish.

El ambiente de la película está lleno de referencias bíblicas, algo de humor involuntario, mostrando una sociedad adulta marcada por la avaricia y el delirio.
Harry Powell aparece en la película La Noche del Cazador dirigida por Charles Laughton en 1955. Las aventuras de Snake Plissken pueden disfrutarse en las películas 1997 Escape de Nueva York y 2013: Escape de Los Ángeles, dirigidas por John Carpenter en 1981 y 1996 respectivamente.
La Noche del Cazador y 1997 Escape de Nueva York son películas de culto, les recomiendo encarecidamente verlas.

It's so weird how villains and anti-heroes are more relatable or more appealing than actual heroes sometimes, maybe it's because a person who is a mess is more realistic than being of pure goodness. I didn't know any of the characters but got a good view of them from your perspective, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for reading my publication. These anti-heroes are appealing to the public even though they have violent, unethical attitudes, are often cruel and present moral dilemmas, but you know that in the end they are fighting evil. The villain presents psychopathic attitudes and many negative feelings, and generally is very charismatic, he represents for the spectator his dark side, many times we admire them for their unpredictability and for their ingenuity, being these true monsters.
