Hello friends, welcome to my blog, today I will participate in this fantastic contest that unites two of my passions, music and cinema. There are many great movies that perfectly combine these two elements, but few have succeeded in transcending them over the years and that even today their songs continue to be heard and create a milestone in the culture of a generation. This film that I chose is Flashdance, directed by Adrian Lyne who was not a very well known director at the time in 1983, starring an unknown actress Jennifer Beals, actor Michael Nouri.

Hola amigos, bienvenidos a mi blog, hoy participare en este fantástico concurso que une dos de mis pasiones la música y el cine. Hay muchas películas geniales que combinan perfectamente estos dos elementos, pero lograr que trasciendan pocas las han logrado a lo largo de los años y que aún hoy sus canciones sigan escuchándose y crearan un hito en la cultura de una generación. Está película que escogí es Flashdance, dirigida por Adrian Lyne que para entonces no era un director muy conocido en 1983, protagonizada por una actriz desconocida Jennifer Beals, el actor Michael Nouri.

This film was about a low-income girl who had two jobs to survive, one as a welder in a factory and another as a dancer in a nightclub, but her dream was to become a ballet dancer in a major company. On her way to achieve her dream, she will fall in love with her boss and she will be torn between achieving her dream and her love, with the complications that this brings. The film in its script is weak, but what made this film great was its soundtrack with music by Giorgio Moroder and songs by: Irene Cara, Michael Sembello. This earned him the Oscar for best original song in 1983, Golden Globes for best soundtrack and original song, among other world awards for film and music.

Esta película trataba de una chica de bajos recursos que tenia dos trabajos para subsistir, una como soldadora en una fabrica y otra como bailarina en un club nocturno, pero su sueño era convertirse en una bailarina de ballet en una compañía importante. En su trayecto por lograr su sueño se enamorará de su jefe y se debatirá entre alcanzar su sueño y el amor, con las complicaciones que eso trae. La cinta en su guion es débil, pero lo que hizo esta cinta grandiosa fue su banda sonora con música de Giorgio Moroder y las canciones de: Irene Cara, Michael Sembello. Esto le valió el Oscar a mejor canción original en 1983, Globos de Oro a mejor banda sonora y canción original entre otros premios a nivel mundial del cine y la música.

Flashdance, a low-budget film became the third highest-grossing film of that year, despite poor reviews from critics. What the critics did not understand is that the strength of his music accompanied by the powerful choreography, created a monster among young people taking street music to a seat that woke up more than a generation. I remember that when I saw the movie and heard its music I couldn't stop singing and dancing to it. What A Feeling and my favorite Maniac are so powerful that even almost 30 years after I first heard them and 39 years since their release they are still playing on the radio and are timeless songs that make you dance.

Flashdance, una película de poco presupuesto se convirtió en la cinta en la tercera película más taquillera de ese año, a pesar de las malas críticas de los especializados. Lo que no entendieron los críticos es que la fuerza de su música acompañada de la poderosa coreografía, creó un monstruo entre los jóvenes llevando la música callejera a un sitial que despertó a más de una generación. Recuerdo que cuando vi la película y escuché su música no podía dejar de cantarla y bailarla. What A Feeling y mi favorita Maniac son tan poderosas que aun casi 30 años después desde que la escuche la primera vez y 39 años desde su lanzamiento aún siguen sonando en la radio y son canciones atemporales que te hacen bailar.

Irene Cara with her song “What A Feeling”, spent six weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, as did “Maniac”. The soundtrack album sold out shortly after release and was an unprecedented success. Worldwide, more than 20 million copies were sold and other songs from the soundtrack, such as "Lady, Lady, Lady" and "Manhut", were also on Billboard. It was and is one of the films that best represents, in my opinion, the function of cinema and music, one of the first to show us breakdance as a new cult between music and dance.

Irene Cara con su canción “What A Feeeling”, estuvo seis semanas de número uno del Billboard Hot 100, al igual que “Maniac”. El disco de la banda sonora se agoto al poco tiempo de salir y fue un éxito sin precedentes. A nivel mundial se vendieron más de 20 millones de copias y otras canciones de la banda sonora como “Lady, Lady, Lady” y “Manhut”, también estuvieron en el Billboard. Fue y es una de las películas que mejor representa en mi opinión la función del cine y la música, de las primeras que nos mostro el breakdance como un nuevo culto entre la música y el baile.

Thanks to CineTv and RisingStar for the opportunity to participate and the idea of merging my two passions, it was not easy to choose the film because I also had Footloose, Dirty Dancing among others in mind that impacted me when I saw them and that I am still humming their music.
