I recently watched the HBO miniseries Task, and I have to say this series is the bomb. You know, when they talk about movies or shows that make you root for the bad guy, well, that is what this movie is all about. I do not know how it happened, but I kept seeing myself supporting the bad guy in this movie. Well, bad is relative depending on who is asking.
The story of the movie was shown from two angles, one from Tom Brandis's angle, played by Mark Ruffalo, and the other focused on Robbie Prendergrast, played by Tom Pelphrey. Tom Brandis was a priest turned FBI agent, which is a far stretch of career change if you ask me. Like, how do you move from being a priest who helps to calm crises into an FBI field agent? Aside from being an FBI agent, Tom is also going through a family tragedy that I would not wish on anybody. This leads him into drunkenness, always waking up and deepening his face in a sink filled with water and ice.
Damn, when you watch the series and get to understand what Tom Brandis is going through, you just have to feel pity for him. Despite all the problems he is going through, Tom is still responsible for hunting down the robbery squad that has been going around robbing stash houses under the disguise of Halloween masks.
Now this is where Robbie comes into play. Robbie is the leader of the robbery gang, an ex-convict with a code. He and his gang only rob stash houses belonging to the motorcycle gang called the Dark Houses. Rob's brother was a part of the gang until his brother was killed. This is the reason for Robbie's robbery, and it is also a ploy to cause a gang war, making the Dark House gang think the robbery might be coming from a rival gang.
Things get out of hand, as it always happens when it comes to these robberies, especially when gangs are involved. Misinformation from Robbie's gang leads to robbing a brutal house where the occupants of the house choose to fight back, and then there was an altercation. Shots were fired, one of the robbers was killed, and the residents of the house were also killed. But when it gets interesting is when Robbie gets stuck with a child from the residents who were just killed.
Firstly, why on earth will you remove your mask when there is an ongoing robbery, and why take the boy along with you under the lie that the boy's parents asked you to babysit him? This is the point where Robbie's life took a turn for the worse, and from there it was a hell show. The FBI became heavily involved not just because of the robbery, but also because of a missing boy.
While I remain truly pissed by Roobbie's poor choices, I still felt a form of sympathy for him, which is what kept me watching. He is a single father with two kids; his wife left, not too long after his brother was killed, and now all he has are his kids and his niece, who is going through her life problems, dealing with her father's death, and also raising two kids, her cousins. Their living situation is a motivating factor for Robbie's robberies as a form of payback to the gang and also to stack up something for his kids and niece.
Hell keeps breaking loose as more and more chaos happens in the movie from both sides. For Tom and Robbie. Two men are trying to do right by their families, but the hurdles of life put them in a position to make tough decisions.
I hope I did not give away too many spoilers, but you should go check out Task this weekend; it surely will keep you busy and entertained.

I really love action movie, I will definitely watch this again. The one you recommended last two week was so interesting Cleaner, I really enjoyed it.
