I actually started watching this some time ago but kind of gave up after 3 episodes as it couldn't capture me and I had a hard time to really keep my attention to it. The first Alien Movie is a real masterpiece and the 2nd one also delivered. I also really was positively surprised by the Prometheus movie which when I watched it I had no clue it was within the franchise. By now though I feel they did everything there is to do with the franchise and it's getting much harder to bring something new that is exciting. I did enjoy the last Romulus movie mainly because it had the same style as the older movies.

As for us, like I said, from a certain point on, we were watching an episode every few days. Overall, we didn't complain about the waste of time, but I wouldn't recommend catching up. There's no reason to. Unless the showrunner has a divine epiphany and fixes all the mistakes in Season 2, which... I sincerely doubt it.
Just like I criticize Season 2 or Prometheus, both films are "something," and this series ultimately isn't.
