Everything start when Douglas is arrested by the police and is questioned by police psychologist Evelyn, Douglas decided to tell her his story. When he was a child he lived with his abusive father who trains fight dogs for living, dogs that Douglas love very much, one day Douglas just decided not talk to his father and mouths off to him, his father upset asked him if he love more those dogs than his family and Douglas answer was “Yes”, making his father so furious that decided to locked Douglas in the dog Kennel and let him live with the dogs. Months later Mike took out Douglas from the dog kennel but not to give him a better life, he just shoots Douglas with a shotgun paralyzing him from the waist down. The story moves forward and now Douglas tell his story when he live the the children home, there he met Salma a young actress and drama structure who presents Shakespeare to Douglas, she taught him how performance and disguise can help him overcome all the abuse suffered as a child, he was happy with her presence but suddenly she just dissapear never come back to the children home and he felt lonely again. Time passed and he grow up becoming in a person with two life during the nights he was a drag queen who performance the French chanteuse Edith Piaf to lip sync her song La Foule but his other life was as a “Dogman” a person who loves dogs, has plenty of them and teach them to steal from the reach, sounds like modern Robin Hood but he is not, Douglas is a bad person that is trying to do whatever it takes to have a better life because the only that he lives as child was horrible. Let see how the life of Douglas and his dogs end.
The premise of this story is unique but not something new, a person that has suffered so much since he was a child for all the abuse received from his father just because he love dogs, that child growing also create an unbreakable bond with those canines that as an adult has become their family, making them the shield that protect Douglas and the feet that steal everything he wants. Luc Besson: A Pioneer of French Cinema
Luc Besson in the mind behind the filming of the movie Dogman. Beson is a French writer, director and producer, in 1990 he founded his own production company Les Films du Loup later renamed Les Films du Dauphin. The director is know for been involving in the creation of more than 50 films and has remarkable production such as Subway 1985, The Big Blue 1988 and La Femme Nikita 1990 with this movie in particular the director start gained acclaimed worldwide. After those works he made the movie Leon: The Professional 1994 for which he was nominated for a Cesar Award for Best Director and Best Picture. 1997 he won Best Director and Best French Director in the Cesar and Lumieres Award for the film The Fifth Element, he also directed Lucy 2014 and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets 2017. Luc Besson is a director that take his imagination to the limit giving extraordinary universe and giving a human conscious through the process of learning.
DogMan: A Story of Traumas and Pain
The story of Douglas is tell by himself to the psychologist Evelyn when he is arrested. He told he all the pain that he lived when he was a kid with his abusive father and the lonely he felt when he stayed in a children home and start carrying for someone again that turn one the flame of life in him but suddenly that person also leave without saying goodbye. This movie is the exploration of traumas that a cruel childhood can leave in a person and take him/her to create in their adulthood an environment that let them feel love and secure, sometimes making that person live in an uncertain life. The director Luc Besson wanted to bring inspiration from real life events creating a story that stays in audience mind. It is a complex story with a survivor as a main character doing things that are wrong but showing an extremely love for dogs, the only ones from whom he received true love.
DogMan Not So Known Cast?
Caleb Landry Jones leads the cast with the role of Douglas, Landry has participated in different projects giving great performances such as Banshee in X-Men: First Class, Jeremy Armitage in Get Out, Red Welby in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Jeff in Finch and Martin Bryant in Nitram for which he won Best Actor in the Cannes Film Festival Award and Best Actor in a Leading Role in the AACT Award. Jonica “Jojo” T. Gibbs portrays Evelyn, Gibbs an American actress and comedian and is known for the her main role in the BET series Twenties. Christopher Denham plays Ackerman, Denham is an American actor, screenwriter and director, Denham is best known for his supporting roles in Shutter Island 2010, Argo 2012, Being the Ricardos 2021 and was also part of the movie Sound of My Voice 2011 a movie thas was premiered in the Sundance Film Festival that has become a cult phenomenon. John Charles Aguilar plays El Verdugo, Aguilar is making his debut in the big screen with Dogman. Grace Palma plays Salma Bailey, she is known for the short Bloody Good Sleep 2020 and now is making her debut in the big screen with Dogman. This is the cast chose bye director Besson that bring to life the story of Dogman.

The movie Dogman was film in Newark, New Jersey and in the virtual production studio in Essone, France. The production or filming has no problems but must of the attention was on the director Lec Besson for his controversies and previous accusations that until today has had no repercussion in the filmmaker. Also is impressive the amount of dogs that were used in the filming of the movie making more realistic the scene and also complicated. Dogman is a movie that will bring to the big screen director Lec Besson with a hard story and great performances.
Despite all the accusation that director Lec Besson has face during the past years is incredible to see a movie directed by him again, Besson is a director that has memorable movies such as The Fifth Element and Leon: The Professional, two movies that has gained him acclaimed and also has positioned him one of the greatest French filmmaker, for that reason now with Dogman, the director is giving action, traumas, love for dogs, a story that audience is going to love for the dogs and the plot or is going to hate probably because will make no sense for them, no matter what it seems that the story is cruel with action scenes and with dogs running all over the city just to satisfy his master. Hope it is a good story and that audience can enjoy the performances, the direction and obviously the dogs.
