Rights of Children - Life Skills for Gr 4 learners

Every single child on this earth has certain rights. No matter what your colour or age or what you believe in.

Children must be protected and loved and not be abused. Some people tend to forget that with every right comes a responsibility.

A responsibility is something that you need to do from your side. For instance, you have the right to education, but you have the responsibility to keep your school clean, have respect for your teachers and do your part to study and learn.

You cannot go around shouting But that is my right, but you take no responsibility for your actions. Then you will never grow up to be a responsible citizen of your country. To be a responsible citizen means you will be a caring person and not only think of yourself.

In South Africa all people have certain rights and responsibilities and we are all seen as equal and everybody of 18 years and older have the right to vote.

We must respect one another's believes and cultures and realize that even if we are different from one another, we all have a place in this country. We may not take somebody's rights away from them.

The constitution of South Africa

The constitution is the highest law of a country, which means that is the law that tells everybody in the country what they may or may not do. It is like a big book full of rules and it will help the people of the country to live in freedom and be treated fairly. If you do not follow the rules of the Constitution you will get into trouble.

The Children's rights are part of the Constitution and the reason children have certain right is that they can develop the best they can and become good adults one day that will abide by the law (do what is right).

All the people in South Africa has basic rights, but children have special rights, because they still need the protection from adults.

Children have the responsibility to show respect, be truthful and take care and look after others and not harm them in any way. You have the right to say what you think, but you do not have the right to be mean to others.

  • You have the right to food and clean water, but you have the responsibility not to waste either of it.
  • You have the right to a name and a place to live but you have the responsibility to help around the house and also be a good person and not to give yourself a bad name by doing things that are wrong.
  • You have the right to health care but you have the responsibility to try and keep yourself healthy and safe. Try and eat healthy and do not use drugs that will harm your body.
  • You have the right to speak about your feelings, but you have the responsibility not to hurt other people in the process. If you become a bully, that means you take away somebody's right to feel loved.

Hello friend, blessings you are right we all have the right to life, love and peace, and as you say every right leads us to have responsibilities, but that is up to the parents to teach them the behavior they should have, regarding that the greatest book is the constitution, I differ in that the greatest book is the bible, and if we care to learn and have enough wisdom to teach our children to live together according to the sacred scriptures. we would have a different world. greetings
