The story of a Saint called George - Reading for little ones

What does it mean if someone is a 'Saint'? It means they are a very good person that helps others.

Lets read the story about the Patron Saint George.

Once upon a time it is said that there was a man called George. He was brave and would travel on horse back across many countries and he had a lot of adventures.

On his travels he met lot of people and it was no different one time when he got to a small village and met a man who lived in a cave outside of the village. He told George and a very vicious dragon were in the area and it was attacking the village and killing the people.

The dragon lived in the lake and he told the villagers if they gave him all their food he will stop attacking them. They gave him their food, but he just kept on attacking them. Then he said if he could have all their animals, he would stop with the attacks, but once again even though they gave him all their animals, he kept on attacking the village.

They gave him gold and diamonds and money, but he did not stop.

The king did not know what to do - even his army could not catch the dragon. He had only one thing left to give the dragon and that was his daughter, He was very sad but send his daughter to the lake to wait for the dragon.

George heard about the poor princess that was left at the lake and he knew the dragon would kill her.

He rode to the lake as fast as he could and when the dragon came out of the lake to eat the princess, George attacked him. He was very brave and he kept on fighting the dragon until he killed it.

The princess was very happy and the king and all the villagers could not thank George enough for his brave deed.

The story of how brave George was spread across many countries and that is how George became known as a Patron Saint.
