Every year, the UCAB (Universidad Católica Andrés Bello) offers the senior students of every High School in Ciudad Guayana (San Félix - Puerto Ordaz) with a sneak peek of what College life is about.
At Loyola High School we are lucky to have the UCAB next door, so we did not need a hire a bus for the tour.
Todos los años, la UCAB (Universidad Católica Andrés Bello) ofrece a los estudiantes de último año de todos los liceos de Ciudad Guayana (San Félix - Puerto Ordaz) un vistazo de lo que es la vida universitaria.
En el Liceo Loyola tenemos la suerte de tener la UCAB al lado, así que no tuvimos que alquilar un autobús para la visita.
On Wednesday morning, all the three sections that constituted our Class of 2025 walked to the UCAB campus to experience UCABXPR.
The tour lasts the whole morning and it is designed to provide students with fun activities in different Classrooms so that we feel what is like to study any of the careers they offer.
El miércoles en la mañana, las tres secciones que constituimos nuestra Clase de 2025 caminamos hasta el campus de la UCAB para vivir la UCABXPR.
El tour duró toda la mañana y está diseñado para proporcionar a los estudiantes actividades divertidas en diferentes aulas para que sintamos lo que es estudiar cualquiera de las carreras que ofrecen.
To mix us up, they have us wrist bands of different colors and then grouped us according to the color we got.
Then, we got some riddles that would lead us to the corresponding classrooms.
Para mezclarnos, nos pusieron pulseras de distintos colores al azar y nos agruparon según el color que nos tocara.
Luego, nos dieron unas adivinanzas que nos llevarían a las aulas correspondientes.
My group visited the law classroom first. They illustrated a law class with the Daddy Yankee divorce case. That was fun.
Some of us had to play defense attorneys, others prosecutors, the judge, the secretary, etc. I was the secretary.
One perk of studying law at UCAB is that you can practice law in Spain too, thanks to some educational aliance or agreement with a spanish University.
Mi grupo visitó primero el aula de Derecho. Ilustraron una clase de Derecho con el caso de divorcio de Daddy Yankee. Fue divertido.
Algunos teníamos que hacer de abogados defensores, otros de fiscales, el juez, la secretaria, etc. Yo era la secretaria.
Una de las ventajas de estudiar Derecho en la UCAB es que, una vez graduados, los egresados también pueden ejercer en España, gracias a alguna alianza o convenio educativo con algunas universidades españolas.
After pretending to be law students for a while, we moved to the school of education.
I loved the giant touch screen, which I thought was a board. I loved all the technology and they told us that other careers use their equipment too.
We played some trivia games with questions from literature to pop culture and I did great. My group won.
One sad thing about education at UCAB is that it is the only program with 30% off. No one wants to study education. Ironically, I loved what I saw, but I can understand why no one wants to be a teacher. Not even in prívate schools or universities teachers make enough money to live a decente professional lives.
Después de jugar a ser estudiantes de Derecho durante un rato, pasamos a la Facultad de Educación.
Me encantó la pantalla táctil gigante, que yo creía que era una pizarra. Me encantó toda la tecnología y nos contaron que otras carreras también utilizan sus equipos.
Jugamos juegos de trivia con preguntas que iban desde literatura hasta cultura pop y me fue genial. Mi grupo ganó.
Una cosa triste de educación en la UCAB es que es el único programa con 30% de descuento. Nadie quiere estudiar educación. Irónicamente, me encantó lo que vi, pero puedo entender por qué nadie quiere ser profesor. Ni siquiera en las escuelas privadas o universidades los profesores ganan suficiente dinero para vivir una vida profesional decente.
After playing to be teachers, we moved on to the Industrial or Employment Relations department.
I actually loved this career or what they can do.
They had us role-play a conflict between employer and employees and we we're supposed to mediate to find a solution that satisfied both parties.
They made it so much fun by making the employer be Wonka Chocolate Factory and the conflicting workers be Oompa Loompas!😂
I was the best, but got only a lollipop, because thanks to the Oompa Loompas strike, there was no 🍫 for anyone! ☹️
Después de jugar a ser profesores, pasamos al departamento de Relaciones Laborales o Industriales.
La verdad es que me encantó esta carrera o lo que pueden hacer.
Nos hicieron representar un conflicto entre una empresa y sus trabajadores y se suponía que teníamos que mediar para encontrar una solución que satisficiera las partes.
Lo hicieron muy divertido haciendo que el empleador fuera la fábrica de chocolate Wonka y los trabajadores en conflicto fueran Oompa Loompas!😂
Yo fui la mejor, pero sólo conseguí una chupeta, porque gracias a la huelga de los Oompa Loompas, ¡no había 🍫 para nadie! ☹️
After that, we went to the School of Economics or Business Administration. Again, we were given problems to solve. This time, a budget assignment and distribution for fast food restaurants. It was fun, but I do not like dealing with numbers that much.
Después fuimos a la Facultad de Economía o Administración de Empresas. De nuevo, nos dieron problemas para resolver. Esta vez, una asignación de presupuesto y distribución para restaurantes de comida rápida. Fue divertido, pero no me gustó mucho lidiar con números.
After a break, we visited four more programs. I had not eaten and the food they have us was not much. I got a terrible headache, so I cannot say I enjoyed the second part of the tour. From the engineering programs, I sort of liked civil engineering. As a kid, watching masons build my house, I liked what they did. I wanted to build things.
Después de un descanso, visitamos cuatro programas más. No había comido y el refrigerio fue muy poco. Me dolía mucho la cabeza, así que no puedo decir que disfruté de la segunda parte de la visita. De los programas de ingeniería, me gustó la ingeniería civil. De niña, viendo a los albañiles construir mi casa, me gustaba lo que hacían. Quería construir cosas.
One of the funnest activities was at the audio visual lab of the school of Journalism or Social Communication.
All in all, I enjoyed my UCAB experience. They have a great campus and a great reputation. The downside is that studying there is not cheap and not everyone can afford it.
Una de las actividades más divertidas fue en el laboratorio audiovisual de la Escuela de Periodismo o Comunicación Social.
En general, disfruté de mi experiencia en la UCAB. Tienen un gran campus y una gran reputación. Lo malo es que estudiar allí no es barato y no todo el mundo puede costeárselo.
