During the Cordilleran orgeny the Rockies were formed.

They are geologically complex, with remnants of an ancestral Rocky Mountain system and evidence that uplift, which involved almost all mountain-building processes, occurred as a series of pulses over millions of years.

The Rockies can be divided into 5 parts - the Southern, middle, Northern, Canadian Rockies and the Brooks Range that is found in Alaska.

The soil in the mountain is not very good soil and lacks nutrients and not suitable for most types of agriculture, The soil in the high valleys are sometimes suitable but mostly very little areas are used for any type of crops.

The Rockies falls in two types of climatic zones - Subtropical in the South and Arctic in the North.

Depending on how high up you go up in the mountain, you will find different types of plants and animals

Choose two parts of the mountain and do research and find out about the different fauna and flora, does anybody live there or farm there.

Watch the video for extra information. Make notes as you listen for general knowledge
