In this post we take a look at How To Use HEX2BIN() Function in Google Sheets. Previously I covered how to detect the foreign language in the cell of the Google Sheets. And that tutorial is pretty handy for those who collect the response of the forms in the non English formats. So the next tutorial in the line is HEX2BIN() function.
HEX2BIN function is used to convert the signed hexadecimal to the signed binary format. And there are scenarios where this form of the conversion is important and a lot of people in fact make use of the function in such case. I know this may not be for all people but there are use cases for the same.
You can now take a look at the visual instruction of this tutorial through the video. Let's take a look at one of the tutorial where you can learn how to use HEX2BIN() Function in Google Sheets.
First make sure to create the spreadsheet and then come up with some hexadecimal data. Which you can use for the conversion into the binary format. Below are some of the examples that you can check out.
Using the Alphabet Hexadecimal value
This example is pretty clear for you to view as you can check in the below quote where the value of the binary is displayed if you run this formula.
=HEX2BIN("A", 4)
Another example to try out.
Using the number to turn into the Binary
So here the 8421 binary format is used to convert which you can easily check out in below format.
=HEX2BIN(9)
Using mix of alphabet and Number
Here you can check out how the value of alphabet and number is converted into the binary. Which you can check in the below formula.
=HEX2BIN("C4")
Using large hex value
Here I am going to experiment with the larger values and that would also appear with the formula below.
=HEX2BIN("FFFFFFFFFF")
Now I want you to run all these formulas and then make sure to get the output and see if that is correct. This is a good function that can help you in variety of scenarios. I have found this to be working out for me in most of the contexts.
You can keep the below reference image for your examples.

Where can you use this function? Say you get the scenarios like say you want to get the binary values of the colors. Like some of the color based palette is made up of the hexadecimal values and you want to turn that into the binary. You should make use of the function for the use for the conversion of the binary values. It should work for some of the apps that you want as well.
I am making these series of the youtube tutorials for those who want to build on the skills of the Google Sheets. And there are many others that are coming shortly on the topics of the airtable, retool, coda and few others. I have already made few of them and it just seems to be going good so you can subscribe, like and share the content. You can use the above video to find my channel.
I'll add more spreadsheet tutorial by the next week. :)
