Short Notes On Not So Good Teachers & Disorganized Teachers

in Education5 months ago

Hi there. In this short education post I cover the topic on disorganized teachers and not so good teachers. Not all teachers are bad but there are some teachers from time to time who don't provide great service.

The motivation behind this story is based on a tutoring client I have. She tells me that she is not sure what her next assignment is and when her next test is. I am told also that her teacher sometimes writes tests the day before of the actual test. There is also the thing where the way the teacher teaches this Grade 12 Data Management course is kind of tougher than it should be. But that is a different topic.

Heavy Workload?

You never really know what is going on from the teacher side of things. From what I know teachers usually follow curriculum topics set by a department head employee at a high school. Expectations and standards could be set really high for teachers in a way that the workload and difficulty could be too much. There could be no lesson plans or tests provided for teachers to copy from in order to save time from making new lesson plans. The personal lives of teachers can vary. You never know if a teacher's child at home takes up a lot of their time away from marking or making lesson plans/tests. With heavy workloads things don't really get done and you can end up with scenarios where test dates are not certain, tests and assignments are marked way past one week since the test date.

Bad Time Management?

Teachers can have bad time management skills too. They may underestimate how much time it takes for marking tests/assignments or how much time it takes to make a lesson plan. These types of teachers can get distracted by items in their personal lives like family, kids, friends, errands, etc.

Teaching Not A Top Priority For A Few

I once had a professor was who not really there for office hours. He would come in about 15 minutes late for teaching lectures as well. A friend and I talked about this a while back. He told me something along the lines of "Yeah, he is more of a research professor.". Professors that specialize more on research and publications may not place a high priority on teaching. Tests and assignments may get marked later than one week. The worst case scenario could be never which is bad as no feedback is received.

I do feel bad for students in general when they receive little or no service. It is not just money wasted but time as well.
