We all use mobile phones. Some times we need extra security while traveling, using public Wi-Fi or lending our phone to someone briefly. We already use lock screen, that is enough for some situations. But there is apowerful feaure that takes you protection to the next level.

Welcome to Feature Friday, where we explore built-in features that make you safer. Let's talk about Lockdonw Mode. This is yours phone's emergency security switch.

What This Feature Actually Does

For Android (Lockdown Mode):

  • It disable fingerprint and smart lock
  • Requires your PIN, pattern, or password
  • Hide sensitive notifications on lock screen
  • Turn off "Hey Google" voice commands

For iOS (Lockdown):

  • Temporarily disable Face ID and Touch ID
  • Requires passcode to unlock
  • Hides notification content

Why This Feature

i) Prevents Coercion: If someone tries to force to unlock your phone with biometrics, you can activate it.
ii) Extra Privacy: Hides sensitive notification when you are in public access
iii) Peace of Mind: Perfect for situations where you want maximum security temporarily

How to enable it

On Android:

  1. Go to Settings > Security > Device lock
  2. Enable "Show lockdown option"
  3. To activate: Press and hold power button, then tap "Lockdown"

  1. Go to Settings > Face ID/ Touch ID & Passcode
  2. Enable "Lockdown Mode"
  3. To activate: Press and hold side + volume up buttons, then tap "Lockdown"
