My experience using free technology with children

The first stage of the students' education is coming to an end. This period has been marked by a complete change. I would like to share my experience of using technology as a resource to enhance teaching processes.

Ya falta poco para que termine el primer momento educativo de los estudiantes. Este tiempo ha estado marcado en un cambio total. Les comento mi experiencia con el uso de las tecnologías como recurso para favorecer los procesos de enseñanza.

I should mention that I am new to this institution. There was a change of location after spending almost 20 years at the other place. The changes are truly for the better, and I have been able to work with what I love teaching: technology.

Les cuento que en esta institución estoy nueva, hubo un cambio de espacio después de haber durado casi 20 años en el otro lugar. De verdad lis cambios son para mejor y he podido trabajar con lo que me gusta enseñar; la tecnología.

During this period, I have been able to attend various activities. One that children really enjoy is a programme called TuxMach, which helps children develop problem-solving skills and mental agility. The programme is presented in a universe where children solve mathematical operations. They are fascinated by the simple fact that they are playing, and they themselves change and increase the level of difficulty.

Durante este periodo he podido atender a los niycon diversas actividades. Una que les gusta mucho a los niños es un programa llamado TuxMach que permite en los niños la resolución de problemas y agilidad mental. El programa es presentado por un universo donde los niños resuelven operaciones matemáticas. Ellos con el simple hecho de que están jugando, les fascina y ellos mismos cambian y suben su nivel de dificultad

Technology enhances teaching processes when used correctly. The children in this space where I am with the computers have a different experience; they escape from their everyday lives and always ask to be there with me. This place takes them to another level, where even the most restless ones do not behave inappropriately. The first time I received a group and they were getting to know me, it was a challenging group, but as the months went by, the teacher told me, "You have transformed my students." That is motivating, and if transformation is achieved, it is because there is a change. That makes me see that I am doing well with them.

La tecnología favorece los procesos de enseñanza cuando son utilizados correctamente. Los niños en este espacio donde estoy con las computadoras, los niños viven una experiencia diferente, salen de lo cotidiano y piden siempre estar ahí conmigo. Este lugar los lleva a otro nivel, que ni siquiera los más inquietos tienen conductas no adecuadas. La primera vez que recibí un grupo y me estaban conociendo, si hubo un grupo fuerte, pero con el pasar de los meses, la maestra me dice , has transformado a mis estudiantes. Eso es motivador, y si se logra transformar, es porque hay un cambio. Eso me hace ver qué lo estoy haciendo bien con ellos.

I really enjoy what I experience here. In addition to using that programme, I have been able to give workshops on the use of Linux OpenOffice to develop educational resources. Recreational programmes such as JClic, audiovisual materials, among others.

Realmente lo que se vive aquí,lo disfruto mucho. He podido además de utilizar ese programa; dar talleres en el uso de openoffice de Linux para elaborar recursos educativos. Programas lúdicos como JClic, materiales audiovisual entre otros.

The truth is that I have had an experience that I had not had for a long time because I did not have computer equipment in the other space I was in. The best thing of all is that hug, that smile, that encouragement that children feel when learning with technology.

Lo cierto es que he vivido una experiencia que tenía mucho tiempo sin tener por no tener equipos de computación en el otro espacio que estaba. Lo mejor de todo es ese abrazo, esa sonrisa, ese ánimo que sienten los niños aprendiendo con la tecnología.
