Examination malpractice is the means by which students, their sponsors, teachers, parents and friends employ to make students get examination results they do not merit. There are various forms of examination malpractice such as;
- Questions being known before examination day.
- Copying from textbooks.
- Cheating with mobile phones.
- Bringing in prepared answers into the exams hall.
- Impersonation.
- Collaboration with an invigilator and oral/ written communication between students.
In addition to that, there are factors that causes examination malpractice to take place. Lack of trained and disciplined teachers, ineffective preparation by students, lack of library facilities, lack of confidence, parents involvement, negligence of supervisor and invigilators amongst others.
However, examination malpractice has effects and there are possible solutions that can help curb examination malpractice. Disgrace, fall in standard of education, delay of scores, loss of confidence in public examinations, inefficiency in workplace and corruption as a result of those who get their certificates through fraud are causes of examination malpractice.
Furthermore, employment of competent teachers, provision of infrastructure, sanctions, reading habits, counselling, supervision of examinations and upright parents are solutions for examination malpractice.
