We are all aware that job market is evolving at a very rapid pace and the skills, which were regarded as the important ones several years ago, may no longer be relevant to the current market. One such skill that has been of well high demand and is very crucial in all industries is data analysis. And if you check any job advertisement, be it in technology, finance, healthcare, marketing, or even in education they want to find people who are able to analyze data and interpret it. Today I will discuss the reasons why data analysis has become the most sought-after skill and why you should take a look at it no matter the sphere of your work.

Well why not talk about the importance of data analysis the simple reason is that data is everywhere. With each company, each organization and even governments gathering excessive data on a daily basis. However, the presence of data is not beneficial unless you are able to analyze it and make valuable conclusions out of it. And this is where data analysts are involved they process raw data and convert it into useful information that assists in making decisions that are more improved. Well I would be telling you that in the contemporary world it is not sufficient to make decisions based on gut feeling or assumptions you also need data to support your decision and this is the reason why companies are wallowing over people with data analysis skills.

Now, I would like to speak about industries in which the data analysis is the most demanded. It is no secret that technology companies such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook are recruiting data analysts since their whole business is founded on data. However, the opposite to the expectations of many is the fact that the traditional sectors of retail, manufacturing, and healthcare are also employing data analysts in vast numbers. These industries have achieved this understanding as they have found out that in order to remain competitive, they have to know their customers better, optimize their processes and anticipate future trend. And all this needs adequate data analysis. I am not very familiar with the various industries but I know that even small businesses are currently employing data analysis tools to get to know their sales trends and customer behaviour.

And yet another reason why data analysis is in-demand is that it is highly remunerated. Since there are companies that are ready to spend huge amount of money to hire the competent data analysts considering that good data analyst can save millions of dollars to the company by discovering issues and opportunities that may be overlooked by other personnel. And even the entry level data analyst jobs are being better paid than most of the entry level jobs. Well this makes data analysis very attractive career choice particularly among the youth who are still in their careers. However, I would also add that high salary comes with high responsibility as companies are making vital decisions on the basis of your analysis thus you must be correct and diligent.

Now people will believe and say so is data analysis hard to learn. Well the answer is it depends on your background and the amount of effort you would be ready to exert. With a little understanding of mathematics and statistics then it becomes easier to learn data analysis. However, in as much as you might not have a good background in math you can learn it due to a number of online courses and resources that are available today. And the best part is you do not need to enroll in a university and spend 4 years becoming a data analyst you can quickly master the necessary skills in a couple of months on online courses and practice. Better still than that is acquiring practical experience through working on actual projects since theoretical knowledge does not suffice.

Well the tools and software involved in analysis of data are also becoming more user-friendly. There was time when you had to learn the complicated programming languages to perform data analysis but currently there are programs such as Tableau, Power BI, and even Excel that have enabled data analysis to be accessible even to non-technical individuals. And even in case you are interested in learning such programming languages like Python and R there are many free resources and tutorials on the Internet. Well I would be saying that the barrier of entry in data analysis field has reduced by a significant margin than even a few years ago and thus anyone who is willing to learn will be able to enter into data analysis field.

Another good factor is that the skills of data analysis are cross-industrial. Because the fundamentals are the same, as soon as one can figure out how to interpret data, one can work in any industry. And this provides you with flexibility and employment security since in case one of the industries is not performing well you can change to another industry. Today in the uncertain job market so much flexibility is highly appreciated and this is another reason why individuals are opting to learn data analysis.

We have all seen that data analysis is not only a current craze it is a core competence that will not completely disappear in several years to come. Be early to the curve and begin to learn data analysis as in the near future almost every job is going to demand some data literacy and the person who possesses such skill will have a huge upper hand over others.
