The Anthropology Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences held a participatory technique training, Saturday and Sunday (26 & 27 June 2021)

The training carried the theme "Empowering Facilitators for Empowered Facilitation" and was attended by 50 people from the 2018 and 2019 batches of Anthropology students at Malikussaleh University. The training activity was carried out for 2 days.

Subhani M.Si as the assistant dean who opened the training, he appreciated the implementation of the training program held by the Anthropology Study Program.
Subhani in his remarks said that this kind of training is very good for prospective anthropology graduates. Not only that, it is hoped that similar events can also be held by other departments at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. Therefore, he hopes that students who take this training seriously.

The training materials were delivered by the Facilitator Team from Lateral, chaired by Prof.Dr. Ramadhan Hamdani Harahap M.Si. There are at least 4 members of the facilitation team, namely Dr. Farid Aulia, M. Si, Rizki Nanda, S.Sos., Nanda Riztia Faiss, S.Sn, and Yusditira RHS., S.Sn.

This training is intended to train anthropology students to be confident in facilitating community/community assistance activities.

The material is presented to be a good facilitator by using the discussion method using the ORID technique (objective, reflective, interpretative, and decisional). This facilitation technique uses a structured stage by using questions that direct the discussion by exploring the thoughts of the participants as the main actors. The material is taught so that prospective facilitators have skills in managing and leading discussions and listening skills when the conversation has deviated and ensuring all actors participate.

In addition, good workshop techniques are also taught in managing opinions. On the last day, participants were trained to use the action planning method to understand the technique of developing a follow-up plan as an active process.

According to Abdullah Akhyar Nasution S.Sos., M.Si as the head of the anthropology department and the person in charge of the participatory technique training, said that this event was very well done by involving anthropology students to train prospective graduates who chose the profile of community development planners and facilitators.

Thus, a good facilitator has 2 things, namely:

  1. Attitude and behavior of facilitator
  2. Facilitator's academic ability

Attitudes and behavior related to the ethics and morals of the facilitators in the form of discipline, integrity, cooperation, initiative, and initiative and how they manage time, responsibility. Understanding good attitudes and behavior will lead to the achievement of learning objectives as expected in the teaching and learning process to be applied after graduation.
