In these last months, my life has taken a bit of a turn... Interesting. I didn't become a father, nor did I catch superpowers before I started with the extravagant assumptions, but in the same way things became a new cultural facet within my city; since in the last months, I became a juror for the freestyle league that makes life here.
Does freestyle need juries and a league?
In short, for those who don't know much about the subject, yes. In the last 10 years, freestyle has gone from being a group of guys throwing insults in the air in a square, to high altitude competitions with an ever increasing number of people, and in Venezuela this growth is no exception.
I started writing many years ago, but at the same time, I participated in this world in my city when I was not much more than a child, the world was different and life could be said to be simpler, no one who was in that square thought about the future with that shot, but ... The years passed, those boys became men, some like me, they left that world for a long time, while others as the organizer of this league, grew up and had the ideal of making the freestyle a culture, an empire that marks our city and beyond. This project was led by some friends of mine called Maiger Ruiz and Cesar Rico, founders of the music company TPM; who decided to start the FKL project along with other cities to show the municipal freestylers and pit them against each other to improve their skills and according to the results of these battles, the best of Rubio (Our City) would face the best of the other cities that joined this project for a final tournament, to show who are the best in the state.
At the beginning of this project, other organizations and entities joined this initiative, among the most remarkable is Benito Cardozo, music teacher and radio announcer who believed in the project and who loves this culture, who serves as a jury together with Sai Separs and Appo Lavinge who are producers of the music label Linbox. Among the jurors is also Abdiel Sandoval, a member of the TPM team and myself, a language student and writer who has been participating in these cultural events for years and who now evaluates the progress of those who took over from our generation.
When this project started to sound within the city, there were many opinions, some said that this was just a group of drug addicts getting together, others that we were going to see two people insulting each other and even those who said that we were just wasting our time. But here we are, many of these people continue saying the same thing, but many others, not only changed their way of seeing this culture, but now they go to these events and enjoy the show.
Where will this project take us? We don't really know, but we will continue to work so that the movement continues to grow and people know that this is just the beginning.

En estos últimos meses, mi vida como un giro un tanto… Interesante. No me volví padre, ni pesque superpoderes antes de comenzar con las suposiciones extravagantes, pero de igual forma las cosas se tornaron en una nueva faceta cultural dentro de mi ciudad; ya que en los últimos meses, me convertí en jurado de la liga de freestyle que hace vida aquí.
¿El freestyle necesita jurados y una liga?
En respuesta corta para los que no conocen mucho de la materia, si. En estos últimos 10 años el free a nivel mundial paso de ser un grupo de muchachos lanzando insultos al aire en una plaza, a competencias de altura con un cada vez un mas numeroso publico y en Venezuela no es la excepción este crecimiento.
Yo comencé a escribir hace muchos años, pero al mismo, participe de este mundo en mi ciudad cuando no era mucho mas que un niño, el mundo era otro y la vida se podría decir era mas sencilla, nadie de los que estaba en esa plaza pensaba a futuro con esa tiradera, pero… Los años pasaron, esos muchachos se volvieron hombres, algunos como yo, se alejaron de ese mundo por mucho tiempo, mientras otros como el organizador de esta liga, crecieron y tuvieron el ideal de volver el freestyle una cultura, un imperio que marque en nuestra ciudad y mucho mas allá. Este proyecto lo abanderaron unos amigos míos llamados Maiger Ruiz y Cesar Rico, fundadores de la compañía musical TPM; el cual decidió arrancar junto a otras ciudades el proyecto de la liga FKL para mostrar a los freestylers municipales y enfrentarlos entre ellos para que mejoren sus habilidades y según los resultados de estas batallas, los mejores de Rubio(Nuestras ciudad) se enfrentarían contra los mejores de las demás ciudades que se sumaron a este proyecto para en un último torneo, demostrar quienes son los mejores en el estado.
Al comenzarse este proyecto, otras organizaciones y entes se sumaron a esta iniciativa, entre los mas destacables esta Benito Cardozo, profesor de música y locutor de radio que creyó en el proyecto y que ama esta cultura, el cual funge de jurado junto a Sai Separs y Appo Lavinge que son productores del sello musical Linbox. Entre los jurados también se encuentra Abdiel Sandoval, miembro del equipo de TPM y estoy yo, un estudiante de idiomas y escritor que lleva años participando en estos eventos culturales y que ahora evaluó el progreso de aquellos que relevaron a nuestra generación.
Cuando este proyecto comenzo a sonar dentro de la ciudad, hubo muchas opiniones, hubo quienes dijeron que esto solo eran un grupo de drogadictos juntandose, otros que ibamos a ver como dos personas se insultaban y hasta quienes llegaron a decir que solo perdiamos el tiempo. Pero aqui estamos, muchas de esas personas siguen diciendo lo mismo, pero muchos otros, no solo cambiaron su forma de ver esta cultura, sino que ahora van a estos eventos y disfrutan de la funcion.
¿A dónde nos llevara este proyecto? No lo sabemos realmente, pero seguiremos trabajando para que siga creciendo el movimiento y las personas sepan que esto, es solo el comienzo.
