RE: How Liberty Dies

in Deep Dives • 2 years ago

I don't think I have to remind you of how close America, and by extension the world, has come to crowning their own authoritarian "emperor" in Donald Trump. How close America came to see its own liberty die by the hand of a populist demagogue. And let's not forget to give credit where credit's due; writing the scripts of the prequel trilogy, George Lucas has shown us that the ingredients of this attempted power-grab have been present for a long time now. The story of Darth Vader, Palpatine, the Republic and the first Galactic Empire, is the story of how liberty dies, and how authoritarianism and fascism feed of failing democracies. Let this beautiful film-series be a warning to us all. And please watch the below linked video; it was the prime inspiration for this post and dives deep into the political analysis of the Star Wars universe.

Dear @zyx066, The process and results of your analysis of the movie Star Wars compared to the current world are interesting and fresh.😳

East Asians like me are amazed at why Americans are so obsessed with Star Wars.
It is surprising to me that the transformation of a falling republic into a galactic empire impresses Americans and Europeans.

It was surprising and peculiar to me that Americans and Europeans were enthusiastic about the Star Wars series because it was a battle between republicanism and imperialism, decentralization and centralization.😄

East Asians like me perceive Star Wars as a spectacular space opera that symbolizes simple American heroism and American dream.

Thank you for your interestng article!
