If we do not rein in our overlords, the woeful crimes against humanity of the 20th Century will soon look like the good old days to the survivors of the coming oppression.
It's very true that the psychological manipulation is nothing more than terrorism, and it's perpetrators terrorists. The evil they seek to commit by instilling terror is beyond even the purges of Stalin, or Mao's Great Leap Forward, because they contemplate - and endeavor to achieve - the murder of billions of good people.
