When I learned that cocaine was the second largest industry in Florida back in the 1980s, second only to government itself, I realized that the only people that could be laundering that much money were the banks themselves. Then Gary Webb published his revelations regarding the CIA smuggling cocaine into the US and inventing crack. Then the BCCI (Bank of Commerce and Credit International) scandal erupted, which revealed the CIA, again, deep in the money laundering industry. I may have the order in which these events occurred wrong, but that doesn't matter, does it?
I cannot say this is a surprise to me, but I am certainly dismayed.
When Citi stole my house a decade ago, that surprised me.
I intend not to be surprised again by fraud.
