It's crazy how people escape to relativism to counter logic.
Of course we will figure it out.
But homelessness for me ( with permanent pain, directly after stationary pain therapy that did not help at all) and my sister directly in Corona was fucking unnecessary.
Also all food being poisoned.
It has already been close to us dying several times.
And the old are just partying like pure decadents.
You are broke?
So tell me if you haven't even "figured it out", how is the youth supposed to be?
If it was the same when you were young "talking like retirement planners", I guess you wouldn't be broke now.
Your generation wanted an EVEN HIGHER standard of living?
How about my generation just wants to survive.
It's just as crazy how every generation thinks they're the first ones that ever had to endure something unbearable. I watched my generation righteously blame the previous generations for ruining everything too. I've read about the angst and anger my parent's generation rightfully had for the poisoned world their parents were leaving them. My grandparent' generation was fighting World Wars over the dumb shit their parents couldn't stop arguing about. They were trying to survive, too. Without running water, or electricity.
Part of the reason there seems to be so much wealth among older generations is that a lot of them HAVEN'T survived. That dwindling population leaves greater wealth for the survivors. Your generations will start experiencing this soon enough.
Yes, we wanted a higher standard of living than outhouses, wood fired ovens, and no refrigerators. Despite how cheap college was when my mother was young, she still couldn't afford it. She was a single waitress with 3 young boys. Sometimes we qualified for government programs that helped put us in a house with safe running water, and we would have enough food. Sometimes, we weren't so lucky. Sometimes, there were jobs, and we didn't need government programs to have those things. It was never what I would have called easy, and most of the time, we really just wanted a higher standard of living precisely so that we could survive.
What I personally 'figured out' is how to live broke. If you want any pointers, feel free to ask. I can almost certainly save you hundreds on any home or auto repairs you (or anyone you might be able to charge for those services) need, and I can walk you through butchering most animals smaller than a cow. You seem to have internet access... I can show you some YouTube channels that can teach you how to build shelter from garbage, and how to build actual housing from mud and sticks. What my generation 'figured out' is how to build that internet, and turn it into jobs, cars, and homes. It would have been handy in my youth; I had to walk to the library to learn most of those things.
I see plenty of millenials and gen-z's driving past me while I work, on their way to just to 'hang out', in cars that cost more than my house, drinking coffees that cost more than my shoes, talking on phones that cost more than my car. I see them in the weed shops, dropping hundreds of dollars on overpriced marijuana with fancy names. It doesn't look to me like you're all just trying to survive, it looks like plenty of you are out here flaunting the easy wealth from your work at home jobs.
The difference between us seems to be that when I see that, I know that it doesn't represent ALL of reality.
My generation wanted to survive, too. A lot of us didn't. I've had friends and family that have died of abuse, neglect, disease, avoidable accidents, and plain old stupidity. I have at least two broken bones that were never looked at by a doctor. Most of the people I went to school with had at least one.
I'm not trying to say you and your generation aren't suffering, or haven't suffered. I'm trying to make you understand that the boomers and gen xers that you see living large don't represent their entire population, or even the majority of them. You can watch assholes live lavishly in your own generation too, if you want to go looking for them. Your broad anger toward two whole generations of people, based on a few of them whose lifestyle you disapprove of, isn't going to help you or anyone else.
