Richworld - A 31SentenceContest Round 29 Entry

About the Contest

This story is an entry to @tristancarax’s 31Sentence Contest. All the infos about the contest here.

In principle, a story has to be created somehow related to the picture prompt below and with 31 sentences in total. Each sentence must have an exact number of words, from 1 to 31, in the exact order that is requested. I like this idea and will give it a try! If the text appears clumsy, that is because I am not a native speaker in English.

The Story

Richworld

He knew it would not end well.
But he had to try it.
When he jumped down the wall from the other side after he had climbed the wall using the skills he had learned, upon landing he felt the pain in his knees.
He ignored the pain moaning and tried to move away from the well-lit danger zone as fast as his damaged legs allowed him.
Apart from the noises he made the area appeared completely deserted but he knew there were security cameras all over.
He knew too good as well that any suspicious activity would trigger a team of armed soldiers arriving within minutes and knocking out everything alive.
But they had taken care of it by staging a nice distraction for the security two miles north of his position.
And it worked - with his teeth clenched he hobbled off undisturbed into a building´s shadow where he could rest for a while and unpack the bag with his clothes.
The clothes that were his only hope to survive in the Richworld.
His old rags would immediately get him exposed.
He undressed his rags and put on the clothes they had so carefully prepared over the last months.
Now he looked almost like one of those hateful "Richworlders", at least superficially, but they hoped it would be enough to pass the too frequent security checks.
The critical phase was yet to come - to see if their home-made ID card would be accepted (his friend was a hard-core nerd but this was beyond insane).
He took a deep breath, ignored the pain in his knees and stepped out into the street.
Nervously his hands went through his sweaty hair, trying to bring them into a shape resembling the picture on his ID card.
Then he suddenly stopped with that - his friend had told him the AIs interpreting the feed of the security cameras are trained on such suspicious behavior.
Trying to appear "normal", he slowly (he anyway wasn´t able to walk faster) approached one of the security gates - impressive steel arks with hidden detection technology and weaponry inside.
He walked through the gate, his ID dangling around his neck.
He was afraid the sensors would detect his heart beating so fast, but he just passed.
"Yeah!!!!"
His ease was so huge, he almost shouted loudly.
Buoyed by his success, he started to have a closer look at his surroundings.
"Not so fast!"
He turned.
A drone was hovering behind him.
"Where did you come from?" a voice from inside the drone asked in such a tone that made him lose all his hope.
"Well - ääh - just from over there" - he pointed desperately in a random direction.
"I know from where you came", the voice said calmly.
He knew it had been hopeless, but not that they would find him that quickly.
"But don´t worry - I know the situation on the other side of the wall and will let you pass".
And he went on...

Cool story. It had a very sci-fi feel to it (ha, after looking, I see that you posted within the sci-fi community 8-).

Some grammatical issues but it wasn't so much so that it detracted much from the story. It was a pleasure to read.

What is your native toungue?

Thanks a lot!
