Making a Natural Cleaner with Leftover Lemon Peel

The last days I've needed some lemons for making syrup and jam, so there were lots of lemon peels left over.
A while ago I've already thought about how to use things like that further, they are just too good to be thrown away, even though they go to the compost.

So I did a bit of research and found a way to make something out of them, which works greatly for me.

I make a natural cleaner!

It's very easy to make, not much effort, and very intuitive!

  • Just put your leftover lemon peel in a pot and cover them with water.
  • Let it boil for 20 to 30 minutes.
  • Then strain everything through a sieve.
  • Add a bit of vinegar (for example Apple Cider Vinegar), about 1/4 of your liquid.
Don't worry about putting too much or too little, just go by intuition!
  • Add a little bit more water, also by intuition.

Now you can fill it into a jar, to use it with a cloth, or into an old spray bottle for more convenience :-)

You can use the cleaner for almost everything.
I use it mostly for cleaning windows, the bathroom and the metal surfaces in the kitchen, because it works great against limescale.
Maybe it could be a problem on painted wooden surfaces, because of the citric acid.

It is very satisfying to make a cleaner out of something that would have gone to the trash otherwise.
And it works just as good as any bought cleaner. It just feels so much better to use it, because there are no chemicals in it.

And aside from that, it also smells very good! :-)
