Yes, our learning journey is an individual thing. Even with a great teacher, you are the one who must learn and incorporate the lessons.
People who can see auras live in their own special hell. You can see something, interact with that something. You know it is as real as that tree over there, but you are called crazy, an idiot, someone who spouts nonsense, by those who are "realists". They tell you, if they can't see it, feel it, touch it, it isn't real, and so you are a loon.
Hopefully such people get in with groups that can see too, or at least understand that they exist.
