Do we need a guru or spiritual master to grow spiritually?
Undoubtedly a controversial topic... Spirituality refers to the attitude of the human being with the intention of obtaining inner peace.
...we are surrounded by all kinds of Gurus and teachers who claim to have the secrets and knowledge and are able to help you become more spiritual....
Based on the above statement I would begin by pointing out that spirituality is a personal matter, each individual acts according to his or her needs in terms of how to obtain peace of mind. In this sense, seeing the spiritual guide as the right person to teach us may or may not have a positive effect.
This question will lead us to a great debate because everyone is free to choose their religion. I am Catholic, I was baptized under the religion, with years of experience in education and I have worked hand in hand with recognized institutions such as Fe y Alegría, UCAB, Gumillas, among others.
I remember an opportunity where we did a workshop on Santeria, origin and historical contexts. The workshop facilitator narrated an interesting experience. He said that he arrived at a place dressed as a santero with the intention of giving another workshop. There, with all the intention of the moment, he handled the subject of Santeria very well and made people believe that he really had a hierarchy within the religion. After a while, in moments of rest, people approached him asking for spiritual guidance. The facilitator stayed in his role until the end, dressed in white and wearing necklaces almost until the end of the meeting. In the last minutes, he asked for a break, changed his attire, introduced himself in front of the audience and said: I am no santero, nor paractico is this relationship....
After all, one of the intentions of the facilitator, besides presenting the real foundation of Santeria and its origins, was to demonstrate that many times we become victims of phony and unscrupulous people.
Who teaches spirituality and how it is learned.
The teaching in these cases is given by faith and culminates with actions. If my faith is unwavering, my spirituality will be nourished by it. Spirituality as I see it is interiority, recognizing, discerning, asking for forgiveness and changing my attitude **How do I learn? Starting from myself and from the good example of the environment Is a guide necessary? In my case I have needed one. Priests have come at the right time, with them I have found new paths, opportunities, I have found peace.
Possibly an Evangelical would say the same about his Pastor or a Jehovah's Witness, that is why I respect the decision of each one and I believe that a guidance can have positive effects. What I would disagree with, however, would be with hooking or fanaticism. From these last two actions we could find people who take advantage of us and manipulate us. In this way, obviously the guidance would have a different effect on the person.
I know Protestant people, today with one religion, tomorrow with another, the day after with another. In these cases they deny everything, they look for miracles through a God who solves problems without recognizing that in spirituality, interiority and attitude, change is obtained. Then, the spiritual guide should start from the Self.

¿Necesitamos un gurú o maestro espiritual para crecer espiritualmente?
Sin duda un tema controvertido... La espiritualidad se refiere a la actitud del ser humano con la intención de obtener la paz interior.
...estamos rodeados de todo tipo de Gurús y maestros que dicen tener los secretos y el conocimiento y que son capaces de ayudarte a ser más espiritual....
Partiendo de la afirmación anterior, comenzaría señalando que la espiritualidad es una cuestión personal, cada individuo actúa en función de sus necesidades en cuanto a cómo obtener la paz interior. En este sentido, considerar al guía espiritual como la persona adecuada para enseñarnos puede tener o no un efecto positivo.
Esta cuestión nos llevará a un gran debate porque cada uno es libre de elegir su religión. Yo soy católico, fui bautizado bajo esa religión, con años de experiencia en la educación y he trabajado de la mano con instituciones reconocidas como Fe y Alegría, UCAB, Gumillas, entre otras.
Recuerdo una oportunidad en la que hicimos un taller sobre santería, origen y contextos históricos. El tallerista narró una experiencia interesante. Dijo que llegó a un lugar vestido de santero con la intención de dar otro taller. Allí, con toda la intención del momento, manejó muy bien el tema de la santería e hizo creer a la gente que realmente tenía una jerarquía dentro de la religión. Después de un tiempo, en los momentos de descanso, las personas se acercaron a él pidiendo orientación espiritual. El animador se mantuvo en su papel hasta el final, vestido de blanco y con collares casi hasta el final de la reunión. En los últimos minutos, pidió un descanso, se cambió de atuendo, se presentó ante los asistentes y dijo: No soy santero, ni paractico es esta relación....
Al fin y al cabo, una de las intenciones del animador, además de presentar el verdadero fundamento de la santería y sus orígenes, era demostrar que muchas veces somos víctimas de gente falsa y sin escrúpulos.
Quién enseña la espiritualidad y cómo se aprende.La enseñanza en estos casos se da por fe y culmina con acciones. Si mi fe es inquebrantable, mi espiritualidad se nutrirá de ella. La espiritualidad como yo la veo es interioridad, reconocer, discernir, pedir perdón y cambiar de actitud **¿Cómo se aprende? Partiendo de mí mismo y del buen ejemplo del entorno ¿Es necesario un guía? En mi caso he necesitado uno. Los sacerdotes han llegado en el momento oportuno, con ellos he encontrado nuevos caminos, oportunidades, he encontrado la paz.
Posiblemente un evangélico diría lo mismo de su pastor o de un testigo de Jehová, por eso respeto la decisión de cada uno y creo que un guía puede tener efectos positivos. Sin embargo, con lo que no estaría de acuerdo sería con el enganche o el fanatismo. A partir de estas dos últimas acciones podríamos encontrar personas que se aprovechen de nosotros y nos manipulen. De esta manera, obviamente la orientación tendría un efecto diferente en la persona.
Conozco personas protestantes, hoy con una religión, mañana con otra, pasado con otra. En estos casos reniegan de todo, buscan milagros a través de un Dios que resuelva los problemas sin reconocer que en la espiritualidad, en la interioridad y en la actitud, se consigue el cambio. Entonces, el guía espiritual debe partir del Ser.

I totally understand your point here. If we actually want to grow spiritually, it has to start with us first by walking in the right way and doing what is good and acceptable. With that, we would grow. Thanks for sharing your view on this.

Me ha resultado grato leer su artículo, que me recordó una charla a la que asistí en Caracas hace muchos años a cerca de los curanderos filipinos que operaban con los dedos y aseguraban extraían tumores y no dejaban cicatrices. El orador presentó el tema como algo real y aparentemente milagroso para al final desenmascarar el fraude y las trampas de ilusionismo de los supuestos cirujanos milagrosos. El orador, un investigador y sacerdote jesuita que dejó a la audiencia bastante perpleja.

I believe nobody is perfect but at the same time there's still a lot to learn from people who have more ideas and experience to share in other for we to know the right path to follow especially in strengthen our spiritual believe and ways.
