Suffering comes when man neglects the remembrance of God
According to my knowledge Muslims suffer more by the will of God as a test. So God not punish for forgetting him but It is in shape of a test. Each test(suffering) God gives can be anything but not neglecting remembrance for God.
Signs of Allah's anger with u is:
"And he keeps the evil things away from you......."
