Ecotrain's QOTW If not you then who?

If not you then who?
If not now then when?

This post is a response to EcoTrain, Hive's premiere eco-conscious community. I am a little late to the party with my answer but since when have I NOT marched to the beat of my own drum?

Change begins with an individual. It may be too late to affect the outcome for this planet, its ability to sustain complex life and warm-blooded mammals like us which are particularly vulnerable. However, if we don’t try, we’ll never know.

It feels good to act on the challenges we care about the most when it comes to nurturing a collective mindset. We can embody the change we want to see in every sphere of society and no stone should be left unturned when it comes to restoring natural habitats.

Your opinion matters, your compassion towards animals and plants matters, along with all the seemingly insignificant measures that you take.

The time to act is now. Margo’s atmospheric methane analysis does not lie, there has never been a better time.

Scientists can’t fully explain what she is picking up from those satellites; where the sheer amount of methane comes from. It is a mystery.

This photo was taken on a recent trip to Porteau Cove. I stayed in a cabin and had a great time storm watching.

The time has always been now to be your best self, someone you can be proud of. Life is too short to beat around the bush and to downplay your convictions to avoid a fight at a holiday dinner. You will encounter resistance as a believer in the impact we have on natural systems. There is a lot of magical thinking going on, a belief that money grows on trees. What happens when the trees are burning? When one catastrophe compounds with the next?

Humans are willing to give lip service to these problems, sure. But when it comes to integrating the knowledge that we may be too late to tilt the balance back in our favour, it’s another story.

Green energy is a joke, it doesn’t work, there is no landfill that can help us replace generations of wind turbines. Solar is corrupted; with people swapping panels early to profit off the grid and again, no sound recycling program in sight or accountability from the producers.

It is time to tell my truth, that where there is a will, there is a way. That it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.

If I could fix one thing about the story of the so-called Green Revolution, it is that to try to maintain our lifestyle with a bunch of band aids is a mistake. The only thing that will save us is a profound change towards compassion, empathy, and social justice.

With current technology and the fact that almost everyone is using these polluting means of convenience, it's easy to feel silenced by guilt. To feel bribed into innaction. For example, I'm taking the plane to head East for the third time this year to see my family over my holidays. Should I be allowed to brag about not having a driver's license and biking everywhere when planes are clearly carbon overkill?

I think in an overpopulated world, we are past the stage of practice what you preach. Of course, your principles should be reflected in your lifestyle and it's important to look at your own place in this massive destruction of natural habitats. Ultimately, message is everything. it's how we can act collectively and affect some genuine change in our trajectory.

Thank you for dropping by. Be well and drink lots of water!
