I just read a study that said a big square hole (3' across) was the most successful for transplant health, vs round or anything else. I know we dug 3' across (and deep) holes for all our little trees because the soil where they went was severely compacted from heavy equipment during construction. They have FAR exceeded my expectations in just a year.

Glad you have a start on your orchard. Hope the wild tree does well.
