Meditation can certainly be a challenge. I have read several book by the recently deceased exiled Buddhist Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hanh about mindfulness meditation. I learned a lot from his books, but I also often felt/feel challenged by them.
One thing I learned in the last year (I was surprised that I did not know it before) is that there are many types of meditation. The type I learned from those books was called "minfulness meditation," and it is very popular. Many people find it calming and it has proven health benefits.
However, it is more challenging for some of us to do mindfulness meditation because we have busy minds...
By the way, Thich Nhat Hanh has a long-running podcast you could probably access somewhere if you had the faintest interest.
There are many other types of meditation, but the type I like is transcendental meditation. To be honest, I feel like a bit of a crazy person when I do it, but, after, I am so calm and centered. I have to stop worrying what a room full of no one thinks. Ha ha.
Good for you for starting a meditation practice and getting your Dad involved. This is self-care. You are inspiring me. I will finally make myself meditate today. There is no one here except the cats. They don't care if I look silly!
