However, biodegradable materials do not have much effect because they can be converted to manure and used for agricultural purposes; for non-biodegradable waste, there is a tendency to cause health issues within those areas; for instance, an unused rubber bowel can breed mosquitoes when stagnant water is stored in it. By recycling, there is a reduction of waste, and pollution is eradicated drastically. More so, in the agricultural sector, deforestation can be mitigated when papers, wood, etc are recycled; this process can save the environment from the greenhouse house effect.

Aside from the environmental significance that recycling has offered, recycling also has significant economic implications. There are job opportunities available in the recycling sector thereby reducing unemployment in the country, recycling demands an organization to seek for technological approach to mitigating pollution which is a way to stimulate technological innovation and because of this economic importance, there is a boost in the economy of the country. Currently, in Akwa Ibom state there is an increase in pollution because of urbanization, so this indicates there is a need for the public sector to employ more workers or to establish a private sector that solves this challenge.

With non-governmental organizations specializing in community recycling programs, society can be enlightened on the need to recycle their household appliances so as to reduce pollution. Such initiative builds a sense of responsibility among the members of the societies and establishes an environmental impact assessment scheme.
