Don't throw away those pineapple scraps!

in ecoTrain2 years ago (edited)

When it comes to fruit, my daughter will pretty much eat anything, but pineapple is a favorite in this house! Not only is it juicy and sweet, but it is packed full with nutrients, antioxidants, and other helpful enzymes that can combat inflammation and disease.

"Pineapples are rich in vitamin C and maganese, providing 131% and 76% of the daily recommendations, respectively." (from healthline.com)
The fruit of pineapple offers many health benefits from improving digestion, lowering risk of cancer and improved relief of arthritis symptoms, just to name a few.

But did you know that the skin offers those same benefits? I came across a video on Instagram posted by a man named Armen Adamjan; creative_explained is his handle. He has many DIY hacks using ingredients you have lying around your home.

After you cut up your pineapple, take the skin and scraps, put them in a pot and cover them with water. Bring the water to a boil and then let it simmer for 20 minutes.

After you strain out the all the scraps you have a liquid that can be drank warm with some honey and/or place it in a jar and put it in the fridge and drink it cold. This "pineapple water" has quenched the thirst of all three of us in this household.
You can also use it for cooking if you'd like which I have yet to try.

This water is packed with all the goodness of pineapple itself;
Vitamin C, Maganese, immune system booster, strengthens teeth, good for your skin, increases red blood cells, reduces inflammation, and helps with digestion - Bromelain is the enzyme that allows for this.

Next time you cut up a pineapple I encourage you to try this, it will not disappoint :)

Here is the Instagram profile I had mentioned.
This is where I read up and cited some information on the benefits of pineapple
