I didn't realise they laid their eggs on the nettles. Are they not native here then? So when we get nibbled nettles will their caterpillars be the most likely culprit? I can say I've seen any butterflies this year or nibbled nettles, despite having them in abundance.

they're not a Native insect and there are some other critters that eat Nettles. I've not managed to catch a pic of a Yellow Admiral caterpillar yet, so other things must be doing the job here at the moment. Keep your eye out though!
