RE: Halloween antics, original advent calendar & perpetual motion experiment

Great post. Regarding the water system. Isnt that how they create the water pressure, by having the water source higher than its output? If you are lower than the source, you then need a pump.

Sort:

This feels different to what you are describing because there is no need in this situation to raise the central tank higher than the rest. And the water moves to the houses not because of the pressure behind it, but because of the vacuum in front of it.

Does that make sense?

Each house is basically creating its own little vacuum and pulling on the main tank, which may even be a little bit lower than the houses it needs to arrive at (rather than higher). As demonstrated by this image which shows how the source tank (right) is at a lower level than the vacuum pump tank input on the left, which obviously would be in your home.

Once the water is in your home the energy moving it from tank to tap is that pressure you mentioned. Automatically re-filling itself as it drains.

Do you think the vaccum is also to explain syphoning? Here is what I was alluding to.

I have seen some unexplainable phenomena where when you syphon water or whatever liquid from one place to another, how does it happen. Here is an example, ignore his silly explanations of course..

Also, I don't know if you have read the incredibly informative book by Pete & Pete about water not being h20?

Sure. I use this technique regularly with my wine making. It is the only way to remove the juice without disturbing the sediment at the same time.

And while this feels similar am not sure it's the same thing. I suppose you could say it is a syphon in a vacuum, activated not by our sucking on the pipe but by the action of turning on a tap in the house.

Water isn't H2O? News to me! Will check it out...

Thanks ;)
