Utilization of Moringa.

People in our area use Moringa for various purposes, from food, medicine, hedges to bathing corpses.
1. As a vegetable
The part of Moringa that is cooked is the leaves. The delicious taste and nutritional value makes us not tired of cooking it. If eaten raw, the taste of Moringa leaf shoots tends to be spicy, but after cooking this spicy taste disappears. Moringa leaves also contain protein, fat, beta carotene (vitamin A), thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), vitamin C, calcium, carbohydrates, copper, fiber, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. These nutrients are very useful for us. For mothers who breastfeed Moringa, making soup will be very fresh and help milk production.

2. Medicine and health
Moringa is a medicinal plant that has been tested. Many diseases are treated using Moringa. The content of antioxidants that can counteract free radicals makes Moringa leaves very good for cancer treatment, Moringa is also very well used to treat high blood pressure, cholesterol, inflammation and even to overcome erectile dysfunction because it is an aphrodisiac or arousal.
As an medicine, Moringa can be made fresh. simplicia, tea bags or extracts. We can boil it, or brew it. The thing to remember is that the use of Moringa must still be wise, don't overdo it because excessive use of Moringa can affect the health of the body.

3. Yard fence
Moringa can be planted around the house as a fence. This will make the atmosphere cooler because of the oxygen produced. Moringa garden fences also make it more aesthetic. We will also easily take the leaves if we want to cook or use them as medicine.

4. Bathing the Body
In Javanese or even Indonesian culture, Moringa leaves are used as a means to bathe corpses. If someone dies, the process of bathing the body is completed with Moringa leaves in addition to using flowers and soap. The use of Moringa leaves is not only based on myths. There are several reasons why Moringa leaves are used as a mixture for bathing corpses.

  • Natural antibiotics.
Moringa contains antibiotics that are good for use. when washing the corpse. The risk of disease transmission from bathed bodies can be minimized. This will help the officers avoid the transmission of disease when bathing the corpse.
  • According to belief, Moringa can destroy witchcraft or amulets attached to the dead. The hope is that Moringa can "cleanse" the body before being buried.
  • Moringa is believed to be able to make people who are suspended in death come back to their senses. So if there is suspended animation, they will wake up when they are doused with Moringa water.

There are so many benefits of Moringa in our lives that we should preserve this plant.
Thus my writing this time may be useful.

Best regard from Indonesia.

Hi, interesting post, I’ve been growing and keeping my family informed about the moringa, it was the first time I heard about the corpse cleansing and tradition. Other than the health benefits, we also used our moringas for a yard fence. It brings a lot more intimacy to our property.
