This is a well written post! What I particularly liked was your mention of the social and spiritual needs of bringing up a child, in addition to the material ones. And just as much as misunderstood religious teaching, there is also a misinterpreted cultural tradition, emphasizing procreation over actually teaching and raising the child to become an asset to the world he or she lives in.
