You've ask a question that bothers almost everyone, as we try to know the essence of our existence, we've all read been told overtime that God's plan for us is good and like the verse you quoted.

Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In knowing His will for your life, you must pray that show you the right path to thread according to Psalm 25:4–5 and then make sure to meet the necessity in Deuteronomy 28.
