News!!!

Top Brief

Okay First off, yes I know I said I wasn't going to use my personal account for Vague Entertainment development news, and for the most part that is still the case. BUT!, I also hadn't setup a community here on Hive about Vague Entertainment now I have, and here is the link Vague Entertainment Community.

So that's kind of fun, but not a huge change.

Second Brief

I have recruited @msanford to help out with the development of various games and what have you under the Vague Entertainment banner. So if you want to say hello to a new Hive user pop over to his feed and give him a follow.

Third Brief

We now have a profile on Game Jolt for anyone who wants to follow along with the development of WayFinder or the game studio in general. They allow for long form blogs on their site, but the plan will be to continue to post here, and giving only summaries and links to those on Game Jolt to follow.

Main Story

This week in WayFinder Development I continued improving the overall appearance and general game play. Not all changes have images attached due to they behind the scenes nature but when pictures don't do, words will have to suffice.

Map Rework

Screenshot from 20201103 224912.png

The map once consisted of rectangular pieces that contained up to 3 doors. Though the cards were uniform they didn't always line up properly which made complex paths and round about's impossible. Several requests were made by my testers (the family) and try as I might the rectangular pieces just wouldn't work in most games. Now we have perfectly square hallways that can be arranged in any shame your heart desires. There is even the possibility of adding a room merge function that turns larger rooms into new wall-less spaces. Who knows!

Combatant movement and AI

Hard to show in pictures the intruders now move (on their turn) using the same rules as the players. They can also "see" the players and make a choice either to run or attack. This gives the game a much more dynamic feel and more tweaking will need to be made before the AI feels right, but its looking good so far.

3D interfaces

As we move away from the 2D overlays to interactive 3D interfaces I've had to change a lot of the code that creates these interfaces and overlays. Right now we find ourselves in that adolescent phase between working well and looking good while doing it. Hopefully, a balance will be found soon.

Coming up

The next set of tasks will be more about flow, I'm not happy with the way the crew mates talk to one another nor am I happy with the general flow of certain sections of the game. So in no real order here is what I hope to accomplish before the next update.

  • Crew Select screen rework: Just doesn't match the rest of the game
  • Animated map view intro/exit
  • Animated commands view
