Yamaç paraşütüyle benim ilk tanışıklığım üniversite yıllarından geliyor. Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesinde ikinci sınıfta okurken, fakültemizin giriş camına Türk Hava Kurumun (THK) biz gençler için asmış oldukları afişle bu serüven başladı diyebilirim. Afişte "Yamaç Paraşütü Teorik Eğitim İlanı" yazıyordu. Bu işlerle ilgilenen öğretim görevlisi hocamız eğitime başvuranları bir sınıfta toplayarak, sürecin nasıl ilerleyeceği konusunda bilgiler verdi. Bizlere haftaya THK yetkililerin fakültemize geleceğini ve bizlere tanışacağını söyledi.
My first acquaintance with paragliding comes from my university years. I can say that this adventure started with the poster that the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK) hung on the entrance window of our faculty for us young people while I was studying at Süleyman Demirel University in the second year. The poster read "Paragliding Theoretical Training Announcement". Our instructor, who is interested in these jobs, gathered the applicants in a classroom and gave information about how the process would progress. He told us that THK officials will come to our faculty next week and meet us.
O hafta gelmişti. Fakülteye gittiğimizde hem derslerimize giriyor, hem de onların gelmesini dört gözle bekliyorduk. Son ders çıkışı, öğretim görevlisi hocamız, bize THK yetkililerin geldiğini spor salonunda bizleri beklediğini söyledi. Yaklaşık 35 kişilik bir grupla beraber spor salonuna doğru ilerledik. İçeri girdiğimizde Türk Hava Kurumunun afişleri, yazıları resimleri ve geçmişten bugüne Türk Hava Kurumunun tarihini anlatan film serisi şeklinde siyah beyaz resimler sergilenmişti. 35 kişilik grup olarak spor salonunda seyirci koltuklarına oturduk. Açıkçası karşımdaki resmi görünce adrenalim ve heyecan tutkumun yüreğimde patlayacağını düşündüm. THK yetkilileri bizlere önce kısa bir sunum yaptılar. Daha sonra Türk Hava Kurumunun nasıl kurulduğunu anlattılar.
That week had come. When we went to the faculty, we were both attending our classes and looking forward to their coming. After the last lesson, our instructor told us that THK officials were waiting for us in the gym. We walked towards the gym with a group of about 35 people. When we entered, black and white pictures were exhibited in the form of posters, writings and pictures of the Turkish Aeronautical Association and a series of films describing the history of the Turkish Aeronautical Association from past to present. As a group of 35, we sat in the audience seats in the gym. Frankly, when I saw the picture in front of me, I thought that my adrenaline and passion for excitement would explode in my heart. THK officials first made a short presentation to us. Then they told how the Turkish Aeronautical Association was established.
Hatırladığım kadarıyla, THK 1925 yılında Mustafa Kemal Paşa'nın emriyle Türkiye'de havacılık faaliyetlerinin hem sivil hem askeri hem de sportif etkinliklerin hızla gelişmesi amacıyla kurulduğunu söylemişlerdi. Ayrıca, merkezinin Ankara da olduğunu ve Cumhurbaşkanı ile Bakanlar Kurulunun manevi koruyucularını olduklarını da belirtmişlerdi. Bir çok yerden gelir elde ettiklerini ve gelirlerin bir kısmını Türkiye'deki havacılık faaliyetlerine harcadıklarını söylemişlerdi. Hatta her Kurban Bayramı öncesinde bütün okullara belirli sayılarda THK zarlarını bıraktıklarını biliyorum. Çalıştığım Okulda da bize de vermişlerdi. Tüm sınıflara 25 adet zarf teslim ettiğimi hatırlıyorum.

doldurmamızı istediler. Formun en başında katılım şartları yazıyordu. Bu şartlar; 17 yaşından gün almış olmak ve 55 yaşını doldurmamış olmak, en az 1.55m en fazla 2 metre boyunda olmak, en az 45kg en fazla 100kg ağırlığında olmak ve son olarak da en az ortaokul mezunu olmak yazıyordu. Katılım şartlarına hepimiz uyuyorduk. Eğitim ve dersler toplam 10 gün sürüyordu.

Bu şartları, taşıyanların isimlerini not ederek, bizleri Isparta da bulunan merkezlerin de teorik eğitimi vermek için haber vereceklerini söylediler. Bu süre içinde ben ve kursa katılacak olan arkadaşlarım ile, Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesinde 1998 yılında başlayan, Havacılık topluluğu sosyal sorumluluk projeleri için çalışmalar yapmaya karar verdik. Isparta'nın Atabey ve Keçiborlu yamaç paraşütü keşif noktaların da, "Gökyüzünün Kanatları" adı altında tanıtımlar yapmaya çalıştık. Üniversitemiz bu konuda gençlerden hiç bir desteği esirgemiyor. Hatta her yıl yaz mevsimlerinde SDÜ Havacılık Topluluğu olarak şenlikler düzenleniyor.

Teorik eğitimden önce, THK eğitim merkezleri, sosyal etkinlikleri, Yamaç Paraşütün tanıtımı hakkında bilgiler verildi. Belki de çoğu kişinin yapmak isteyip te cesaret edemediği bu yamaç paraşütün ne olduğunu öğrenelim. Uçuş yapmak istiyorsanız, öncelikle kendinize uygun bir yer seçmelisiniz. Mutlaka bir eğitmen eşliğinde uçuş yapmanız gerekiyor. Sırtınıza paraşütü geçirip, gerekli olan ekipmanları bir kez daha kontrolden geçirmelisiniz. Sonra bulunduğunuz yerden hafif koşarak hızını aldıktan sonra yamaçtan tepeden atlayabilirsiniz. Paraşütün içine dolan hava sayesinde havalanmış olursunuz. Kanatlara bağlı olan askı ipleri sayesinde de yönünüzü belirleyebilirsiniz.

You must fly with an instructor. You should put the parachute on your back and check the necessary equipment once again. Then you can jump from the slope after you get the speed by running lightly from where you are. Thanks to the air filled into the parachute, you will take off. You can also determine your direction thanks to the hanging ropes attached to the wings.
Yamaç Paraşütünü genellikle ilkbahar ve sonbahar aylarında yapmak daha güvenlidir. Bölgedeki hava durumunu da sürekli kontrol etmek gerekir. Açık, güneşli ve yağmursuz havalarda yamaç paraşütü yapılır. Uçuş yaparken mutlaka üzerinize rahat elbiseler giymeniz de gerekiyor. Çünkü atlatış ve hızınızı alırken elbiseleriniz size engel olmamalıdır.
