How Davy almost freaked me out

in Ladies of Hive3 years ago (edited)

Hi Hive Ladies,

I unfortunately don't have a picture of the moment I'm going to write about. But I still laugh when I think about it, so I will share the story with you.

These days I tutor online, but a while back I tutored students in the garage where I lived back then. My garage was spacious, so it was easy to set it up as a classroom. At that time Davy, my cat, still lived with me.

Davy loved to seek attention from the students who came for tutoring, especially the younger ones. He would stroke their legs or climb on their table and sometimes he would even climb in their laps.

Now I have to admit: beside being cute, Davy always did crazy things like slurping up my coffee from my mug when I wasn't looking or he used to take my clothes from the laundry basket to sleep on them.

But one of the crazy things Davy did was the following.

Some kids liked to put their bags on the floor right next to the chair they were sitting in.
One day everyone was busy practicing math exercises and nobody noticed that Davy had sneaked into the garage, crawled into one of the school bags on the floor and fell asleep in the bag.

The boy whose bag it was had one hour of class, so he got up very quickly to leave for home again. When he picked up his bag from the floor to put his notebook in it, he immediately noticed by the weight of the bag that something was not right. He panicked, but still calmly put the bag on the floor and then came running to me. 'Teacher, there is something in my bag.'

I looked at him, startled. In a tropical country like ours, there are animals everywhere: iguanas, lizards, frogs and toads, but also snakes. And so the first thing that came to mind was: there might be a snake in that bag! Especially since there was a canal across from my house, where snakes could definitely live.

I asked the students all to walk out quietly and stand in a corner in the yard. 'No panic please. Please keep calm.'

I then fetched a hack, before using a long stick to open the bag a bit to see what guest was inside. My students stood full of nerves peering out from the outside.

And there I saw Davy. Quietly, he was sleeping. He was sleeping so deeply that he didn't even realize that someone had opened the bag.

Of course everyone broke down laughing and I rushed back to put the hack away. The laughter and cheering was so loud that Davy was startled awake. Gaping, he stretched and walked out of the bag at his leisure. The children were all still in the yard and Davy walked past them with an attitude that clearly said 'Whatever, I slept well'.

This is my entry to the 39th @ladiesofhive community contest. I do invite @rima11 to participate in this challenge.

Too funny! Your cat sounds a lot like the one we had a few years ago! She was a riot, always getting into things and eating things that cats normally don’t eat. She wanted some food out of the fridge in the picture below, not sure if she was into tortillas or what! Lol

Glad that the kids and you all had a good laugh after a potentially scary situation like that!
