Stricter punishment would have to be a deterrent @monica-ene. It is really sad that women in Nigeria continue to experience a lack of education and such terrible treatment.
I remember my father saying to me in 1970 that I did not need to go to uni as I would get married and become a housewife. So that thinking is really very recent in our society too. Of course I took no notice of him, my mother was my greatest support.
