Sometimes in Splinterlands you enter a match where everything looks normal then suddenly there's this new modifier that invokes chaos because every magic attack can now inflict burn to any unit it touch. That kind of battle feels a bit confusing at first but also fun since one mistake can slowly melt your whole lineup.
The battle I’m sharing today is all about magic attacks and the new Dragon Breath modifier. When every magic attack has a chance to burn enemies, it becomes a real test on who survives longer and who can keep up with the damage. So, let me show you how my lineup worked and how each unit played their part once the fight started. This is a battle that you certainly don't want to miss.

Battle Breakdown
Modifier in this Battle:
- Dragon Breath: Units hit directly by a magic or ranged attack receive the Burning effect (at the beginning of each round, Burning has a 33% chance to spread to adjacent units, then all Burning units lose 2 health; burning can be cleansed).
My Thoughts on Modifiers
- Dragon Breath Modifier makes magic units a lot more dangerous since every magic hit adds Burning which deals extra damage every round. Even low magic attack units become strong because Burning can spread to other enemy units which means more damage. This modifier really pushes players to pick more magic attack units or at least units that can survive Burning for longer. Use these knowledge with you or against the enemies.

Team Composition
Archon: Dolfar Darflak
- Dolfar Darflak is really flexible since it lets me use both Fire Element and Death Element units without worrying too much about synergy problems. It helps me build weird teams that somehow still works when the match starts. It also only uses 3 mana so I have more mana for my units.
Units Chosen

Unit 1: Halfling Refugee
- Halfling Refugee is a strong frontliner with Weary debilitation so the longer the game goes, the more it gets tired and skip his turn. This isn't a problem though since his role is a filler and a damage absorber. As long as he takes a few damage for the main tank, it's fine.

Unit 2: Warborn Shaman
- Warborn Shaman is one of my important units here because it has Void Armor and 3 magic attack which works great with Dragon Breath Modifier. The more magic hits it does the more chance to Burn enemies which makes it really strong in this match. Warborn Shaman also acts as my main tank but the problem is Void Armor does not protect him from Burning.

Unit 3: Dark Arborist
- Dark Arborist gives me support with its Demoralize but in this battle it’s not really the priority since most enemy units don’t have melee. Still, Dark Arborist is good here because it has magic attack and an okay health to tank.

Unit 4: Arachne Weaver
- Arachne Weaver has Corrupted Healing which can be useful in long fights since it can heal units higher than normal at the cost of 1 max health per heal. Arachne Weaver also have 2 magic attack which helps when you want to apply that burn in Dragon Breath modifier.

Unit 5: Graveyard Warlock
- Graveyard Warlock is my last unit. It has no ability but it has 3 magic attack which is already strong on its own but stronger in a Dragon Breath Modifier. More magic attack means you don't need to wait for the burn to kill the enemy. It's a good choice since you don't know when enemies will have that high health tank in this battle.

The Battle
Opening Rounds:
Both the enemy and I have high attacks so I was concerned. One of my tanks also died immediately in the first round making this a problematic game. My only wish is that my attacks hit the second unit more which is another problem since they have Phase but if that monster dies, I should be able to take control of the game.
Mid-game:
An attack from Dark Arborist luckily hit Mindless Thrall which means Burning was applied. Burning, unlike magic attack, does not miss even when the enemy have Phase. This means, at most, even if other units miss, they should have 2 rounds. Unfortunately, Burning also doesn't get blocked by armor even when Warborn Shaman have Void Armor so it would take a direct hit to its health.
Final Rounds:
With Burning and another hit from Arachne Weaver, Mindless Thrall goes down. Unfortunately, all of their attacks also made my Warborn Shaman die as well but now I have health and number advantage so it should go well on my end and win in a round or two.

Results & Reflection
What strategy I was aiming for:
Because Dragon Breath Modifier makes every magic attack add Burn effect, that means using magic attacks have advantage in this battle. I wanted to stack a lot of magic attacking units so I can apply as much Burning as possible and melt the enemy fast. While the enemy is burning, I'll use my Arachne Weaver to heal some of the damage and prolong the health of my own units. Just repeat this process until I win.
What surprised me:
What surprised me is that Burning wasn't as helpful as I've thought. Not only it doesn't stack but the enemy also dies even before the burning spreads so only the main tank was affected. The modifier still helped but I probably would've appreciated it more if the enemy has high health units like Helheim Demon.
What I learned:
I learned that having more magic units in Dragon Breath Modifier is not as strong as I understood it. Since the burning is applied on the first magic attack hit, you don't need a lot of it. Rather, I think focusing on the unit's endurance is better. Have a unit with high health or do some healing. Spreading out the attacks with Opportunity or Sneak might also help more in this modifier than all attacks going through the front.

Closing Thoughts
Even though I have some regrets, this battle still showed me how strong magic units can be. You should surely need to have some magic attack units when Dragon Breath Modifier is active to apply those burning. Even small magic hits become dangerous since Burning deals extra 2 damage every round and it has a chance of spreading to the enemy team. It’s the kind of match where good planning and consistent pressure really pays off.
Overall, it was a simple but fun fight. I liked how each unit helped even in small ways with the biggest effort coming from Arachne Weaver.
