In these times when we are seeing so many delicate situations with our children, mistreatment by friends and strangers, extreme cases of bullying that have led to terrible consequences. When I see, hear or read any of these news or know of any of these cases; my heart fills with questions: what is happening in the world?... What are we failing as a society? And therefore, it leads me to the reflection that, as we well know, the family is the foundation of society and that is where I come to us as parents.
So, taking into consideration the first option, of proposal of this new and interesting contest #186; I go on to give you my three qualities or traits that we parents should have today. These are as follows:
The first quality that we parents should have in these times is love in all its expressions for our children; because love gives us patience, prudence, sacrifice and makes us give the best of us, the best qualities, feelings and emotions to them and even leads us to discover other virtues, which we did not even know we had.
This means that we must teach our children to accept themselves as they are, to love their body, to take care of it and not to allow the opinions of others to affect them in a negative way. From an early age tell them: that they are important, that they are beautiful the way they are, that they are intelligent, that they are brave. Repeat this to them until they always keep it in mind and understand that no one can tell them otherwise. To teach this also, we must take good care of this quality in ourselves: self-esteem and teach by example.
As parents, we must be very clear about what respect is and all that it encompasses. Having this quality is important, because we are going to teach it automatically to our children. I think that respect is one of the bases to maintain peace and cordiality in all areas of our lives; by managing our family nucleus under this premise, we will get rid of many headaches, that is for sure and this value is undoubtedly learned and taught at home, that is why it is very important that parents take it into account in our lives and families.
I could list other qualities or traits that we parents should have, such as being empathetic, being kind, being fair, being tolerant. We should try to cultivate all these characteristics and values, which would make our world a better place for us and our children, creating a more empathetic generation, where we can all live, with more tranquility and with much more well-being, it would be the best legacy we could leave to our children; then we have work to do. That would be the ideal world that we could help create for our children and grandchildren; that is my ideal world.

Entonces, tomando en consideración la primera opción, de propuesta de este nuevo e interesante concurso #186; paso a darles mis tres cualidades o rasgos que debemos tener los padres hoy día. Estas son a continuación:
La primera cualidad que debemos tener los padres en estos tiempos es el amor en todas sus expresiones por nuestros hijos; porque el amor nos brinda paciencia, prudencia, sacrificio y hace que demos lo mejor de nosotros, las mejores cualidades, sentimientos y emociones a ellos e incluso nos lleva a descubrir otras virtudes, que ni sabíamos que teníamos.
Esto quiere decir, que debemos enseñar a nuestros hijos a aceptarse como son, a amar su cuerpo, a cuidarlo y a no permitir que las opiniones de otros les afecten de manera negativa. Desde pequeños decirles: que son importantes, que son hermosos como son, que son inteligentes, que son valientes. Repetirles esto hasta que lo tengan siempre en mente y que entiendan que nadie puede decirles lo contrario. Para enseñar esto también, debemos tener bien cuidada esta cualidad en nosotros mismos: el amor propio y enseñar con el ejemplo.
Como padres, debemos tener bien claro lo que es el respeto y todo lo que abarca. Tener esta cualidad es importante, pues casi que automáticamente la vamos a enseñar a nuestros hijos. Pienso que el respeto, es una de las bases para mantener la paz, la cordialidad en todos los ámbitos de nuestras vidas; al manejar nuestro núcleo familiar bajo esta premisa, nos libraremos de muchos dolores de cabeza, eso es seguro y este valor indudablemente se aprende y se enseña en casa, por eso, es superimportante que los padres lo tengamos en cuenta en nuestras vidas y familias.
Podría enumerar otras cualidades o rasgos que deberíamos tener los padres, como el ser empáticos, ser amables, ser justos, ser tolerantes. Deberíamos tratar de cultivar todas estas características y valores, que harían de nuestro mundo, un mejor lugar para nosotros y nuestros hijos, creando una generación más empática, donde todos podamos vivir, con más tranquilidad y con mucho más bienestar, sería el mejor legado que podríamos dejarle a nuestros hijos; entonces tenemos trabajo para que así sea. Ese sería el mundo ideal que podríamos ayudar a crear para nuestros hijos y nietos; es mi mundo ideal.

It is amazing to me how some inconsequential (or so they may think) remark can possibly scar a person for life! Children view their self worth through the eyes of what they are told. Unfortunately, it's not always good or uplifting.

Love is undoubtfully resides at the core of healthy parenting. It is the love that makes it desirable for parents to give sacrifices.
While teaching self-love and developing high self-esteem is important, I think we need to be prudent in this area as to not cultivate arrogance or narssacism in our kuds.
